James Bloise Obituary

James Vincent Bloise Jr., Retired Olean Police

CUBA --- It is with huge regret and sorrow to inform you of the death of James V. Bloise Jr. (Jim) born August 31, 1937, in Olean, NY after a lengthy illness passing at OGH on Jan. 5, 2025. James resided at his Lakehouse home in Cuba, N.Y. Both parents James V. & Margaret H. (Manginell) Bloise Sr., his brothers: John & Robert Bloise of TN & sister: Francis Bloise of Olean all deceased.

Jim is now reunited after longing for his beautiful-loving wife & mother of three, Jeannie (Kathleen Kent) Bloise Jr., deceased June 21, 2008, whom he married on October 3, 1964, at St. Bonaventure in Allegany, NY. Jim was a supportive, protective, & caring husband & father and proud of his wife's career and that of his surviving children. His eldest daughter, Kimberly A. Bloise of Dunkirk/Olean; his son James (Christina) V. Bloise Ill of Cuba Lake; and his youngest, Debra L. Bloise Layman (Mark Gesek) of Olean. Also surviving are his grandchildren of James: James (Bubb's) Bloise IV & Mariah Bloise; and of Debra: Brandin & Alexis Layman.

Jim graduated from OHS in 1956 and served with the US Army National Guard, 1956-66. Attended JCC while working at his family's News Stand business on 10th Street in Olean and pursued some endeavors and as a result, won a trip due to sales to Spain & Africa of which he and his wife treasured. Then he pursued law enforcement at a young age and trained at the Albany Police Academy. He served the City of Olean NY Police Dept. initially by motorcycle and walking the streets, then advanced as Police Captain and retired after 34 years. Jim was instrumental in forming the Policeman's Benevolent Association in his early onset of his career.

Jim and Kathy first resided and enjoyed their passion of horses at 'Pa Pa Kent's Horse Farm' at the Tank Lots (Gargoyle Park.) This fun-loving couple shared their passions with their children mostly on Cuba Lake at each their parents and at their own lake house. Jim loved dancing, boating, roller skating, water skiing, fishing, martial arts, snowmobiling, & enjoyed precious memories camping at Onoville and on their waterfront land at Kinzua with his family and nephew Raymond Fowler who proudly followed in Jim's footsteps in law and gave Jim his best friend, Arthur, Jim's dog that would ride with him on his Jet ski.

In later years, Jim was a homebody known for teaching something new to those around him each and every day, as he had much knowledge. Jim was computer savvy, enjoyed CB Radios (in its day), surfed the internet, loved playing the organ & harmonica, and other instruments. Looked forward to July 3rd 's annual family fireworks & occasional card nights with retired co-workers, late nights and daytime conversations on the deck or driving around the lake on his ponton boat with family and friends. Ethics and morals were a huge part of Jim's beliefs and teachings...

Some of Jim's last memories were spent driving around the countryside with his caretaker, Jackie Conroy Morgan. Jim also enjoyed watching football and was once heavily into the news on tv and his computer.

Jim will be GREATLY MISSED! For those that would like to express their condolences: visitation & funeral committal services will be held at Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home at 646 W. Kim and Bloise family, I´m so sorry to hear of your Dad´s passing. He was a great man! Many memories with him and my Dad, Wally, especially at the gun club family picnic parties over our years growing up. It´s difficult at any age losing a parent and my heart breaks for you and your family!

So sad to hear of Jim's passing. Many many memories of Kath and Jim. Even before their wedding. And that was a special one. Loved spending time at the lake and the farm with them. Always so welcoming and so good to my mom, dad and brother Gregg. Condolences to Kim, Jimmy and Debbie and their families.
