Jean Malone Obituary

FORT MILL, S.C. - Jean Marie (McDonell) Malone, 91, passed away Monday (March 6, 2017) at her home in Fort Mill, after a brief illness.
Born in Olean, N.Y., on June 15, 1925, she was the youngest child of the late Eugene and Catherine McDonell, and predeceased by siblings Margaret Kelley of Pittsburgh and Allan McDonell of Wellsville, N.Y.
Prior to her marriage to John W. Malone of Georgetown, Conn., a sales engineer for the former Clark Bros., now Dresser-Rand, in Olean, Jean worked as the first female bank teller of the former Olean Trust Company.
She raised four children, while transferring with her husband's job from Pittsburgh to Cleveland, and finally settling in Fair Haven, N.J. In 1991, she and her husband retired to Hilton Head, S.C.
Shortly after her husband's death in 2001, she moved to The Cypress of Hilton Head, where she enjoyed an active social calendar and newfound friends. In 2013, Jean left The Cypress and moved with her daughter, Patrice, to Fort Mill to be closer to her grandchildren.
Survivors include her four children, Patrice J. Malone of Fort Mill, Peggy (Mark) Cheadle of Fort Mill, Marie Malone of Hilton Head and Jim (Sara) Malone of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and four grandchildren, Katherine and Alex Cheadle of Fort Mill, and Eva and Molly Malone of Brooklyn, N.Y.
With her family by her side, Jean gracefully left this world with the strength, class and beauty that exemplified her life, always thinking of others and never complaining. Her loss leaves behind a sea of heartbroken family and friends who will keep her memory alive with every bite of chocolate.
A funeral Mass will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at St. Francis by the Sea in Hilton Head. Private burial will be Thursday (April 13, 2017) at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Ga., next to her beloved husband and a stone's throw away from Johnny Mercer, overlooking the Moon River.
