Margaret Cashimere Obituary

Margaret A. 'Peggy' Cashimere, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt

OLEAN - Margaret A. Cashimere passed away Tuesday (June 11, 2024) at the Cuba Nursing Home, after a long illness.

Born July 2, 1936, in Olean, she was the daughter of Martin and Ardis Bryski. She married Paul Cashimere, who predeceased her on Nov. 13, 2021.

Peggy grew up in Olean, where she attended Olean High School and excelled in writing, receiving national recognition for her essays and poetry. She was also crowned Homecoming Queen in 1953 before graduating from OHS in 1954.

In her next chapter, she became a full-time wife and mother, raising her six children in Olean. While her children were growing up, she was very active in the St. John's school and church community as well as Archbishop Walsh High School. In 1990 she went to work for Archbishop Walsh as a secretary and alumni coordinator. This role suited her very well, as she was known for her meticulous record keeping and attention to detail. She and her husband Paul were awarded the Walsh Persons of the Year for their dedication and service to the Walsh community.

After retiring, she stayed active gardening and loved taking care of her flowers. She was also very active with her 16 grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to Texas and Maryland for extended stays to spend time with them. She would follow each one of her 16 grandkids' activities, from baseball to boy scouts to sports and dance. She also loved to cook and bake and could never say no to a request for her chocolate cake with white frosting.

Peggy is survived by her children, Donald (Terrie) Cashimere of Endwell, Michael (Lori) of Coppell, Texas, Timothy (Kristina) of Olean, Susan (Greg) Byrnes of Geneseo and William (Jessica) also of Olean; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Brisky and Carl Iseman; and many nieces and nephews who adored her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul; her mother and father; her son, Christopher; a brother, Richard Brisky; and several sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday (June 14, 2024) at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday (June 15, 2024). The Rev. Peter Bassey will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.

I remember Peggy driving me to Penn York golf tournaments with all of the boys. I remember her amazing smile and great sense of humor. I still put the Christmas ornament she gave me for my HS graduation on our tree each year and think of all of the fond memories at the Cashimere house . My sincere condolences to the family. May she rest in peace.
