PALM COAST, Fla. - Michael J. McCaffrey, 80, formerly of Green Street, Cuba, N.Y., passed away peacefully Friday (Oct. 03, 2025) in Palm Coast, after a courageous battle with a long-time illness.

Born Jan. 12, 1945, at Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, N.Y., Mike was the son of Anthony P. and Anne Moran McCaffrey, who were the most wonderful parents. Mike lost his father at the tender age of 2 years, and worked to assist his mother for the rest of her long life.

Mike graduated from Cuba Central School in the Class of 1964. Four years later he graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a bachelor's degree in engineering.

After college, Mike worked as an engineer helping to build the expressway now known as Interstate 86. He lived in Rochester, N.Y., for 12 years before returning to Cuba to care for his mother in her later years. It was at this time he began working for the New York State Department of Transportation in Friendship and retired as a supervisor.

Mike was an active member of Our Lady of Angels Church in Cuba, and a generous supporter of many Catholic charities. Mike was a private man who kept his ongoing charity work and contributions outside the purview of others. He cared deeply for others and had a strong love for and connection to his hometown of Cuba.

Mike is survived by a sister Ann (Don) May of Ormond Beach; and many adoring nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his four brothers, Thomas, Robert, Joseph and A. Daniel McCaffrey.

A Mass and Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Oct. 10, 2025) at Our Lady of Angels Church, Cuba. Rev. Jeffrey Donovan will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Belmont, N.Y.
