Patrick Geary Obituary

Patrick William Geary

BRADFORD, Pa. - With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Patrick William Geary, 80, of Bradford, who died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025. at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh, surrounded by his loving family.

Patrick was born Oct. 2, 1944, at the Bradford Area Hospital, to Jean Sloan Geary and Vincent Geary. On Feb. 2, 1974, he married Christine Reid of Dublin, Ireland, at St. Bonaventure Parish in Allegany, N.Y. Together, they built a beautiful life and family over 51 years of marriage.

He attended Hobson Place Elementary School and graduated from Bradford Area High School in 1962. Patrick went on to Alfred State College, graduating in 1969 with a degree in business administration.

His career took him to Liverpool, New South Wales, Australia, where he worked for British Motors Corporation; to Dublin, Ireland, with Hallmark Cards; and finally, home to Bradford, where he worked at Zippo from 1972 until his retirement in 2009 in the accounting and purchasing departments.

Beyond his career, Patrick dedicated himself to community service as executor of the Eulalia Dempsey Charitable Trust, joyfully directing support to local nonprofits. He was also an active member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Lewis Run and St. Bernard's Parish.

A lifelong Buffalo Bills fan, Patrick never missed a game. He loved watching sports, following the stock market, attending his children's athletic events and taking scenic drives with Christine. He was deeply involved with the BCC Trust and cherished time spent with family, friends and his beloved dogs, especially Lukey. Known for his kindness, intelligence, sensitivity, and gentle humor, Patrick had a gift for putting others at ease.

Patrick faced cancer with courage and immense gratitude for his devoted wife, who lovingly cared for him in his final years.

He is survived by his wife, Christine; their three children, Eamon (Moira) Geary of Pittsburgh, Sinead (Kenneth) Morris of Harvey's Lake and Deirdre (Triet) Nguyen, currently serving in Germany; and six cherished grandchildren, Conor, Aine, Carrick, Jean, Maeve and Cillian.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 20, 2025) at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bradford, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Gutting as celebrant. Burial will take place on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.

Patrick will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend whose quiet generosity and love left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

The family would like to express our thanks to the those that supported our family during Patrick's illness.

If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the SPCA of Bradford; St Bernard's Parish; or organization of donor's choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc., Bradford.

To Christine and the family I'm so sorry to hear that Patrick had passed away. I graduated with Pat in 1962 and then lost track of him for many years then reunited his friendship when we both moved back to the area and served on the class reunion committee. Later to visit you and Pat on the beautiful land you called home. Kim and I so enjoyed visiting with you and Pat and laughing at our life stories, watching the horses you took care of - showing us pictures of your children and grandchildren. Christine I'm so sorry you had to go thru the many years of the health issues Pat had to endure. On behalf of the class of 1962 I'm sorry to loose another classmate but I know Pat no longer has to go thru what we heard and saw and yes today Pat is in a better place. God Bless you during this difficult time.

Dear Christine, my heart is broken alongside yours and your children's. Pat made my days at zippo pleasant; he had a special kind of humor and made me laugh. One of my best memories was the day he broke the news to me and the entire office was that you were having twins...I can still see his glee...and anxiety! Pat was a darn good man who will be missed. Hugs to you. Beverly Sherman
