Phyllis Jane 'Mousie' Perkins Norton, loving mother, Nana, Great-Nana and sister

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. - Phyllis Jane"Mousie" Perkins Norton, 81, of Shinglehouse, and Casselberry, Fla., passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday (Sept. 13, 2025).

Mousie was born Sunday, April 23, 1944, in Coudersport, a daughter of William and Nina Ostrander Perkins. On Sept. 5, 1964, in the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse, she married Craig Neil Norton, who passed away June 20, 2008.

After graduating from high school in Shinglehouse, Mousie went on and graduated from Ora-Jean Beauty School in Erie.

She worked in the Galeton Beauty Shop after her graduation until she was married. After her marriage, she worked for Norton Builders Supply in Shinglehouse for many years.

She enjoyed driving the boom truck, hauling bricks and blocks with her husband for many years.

She was a member of the former Oswayo E.U.B. Church and attended the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse and also Faith Bible Church in Little Genesee, NY.

At the age of six Mousie received her first pony, whose name was Tony, which led to a lifelong love of horses, horse shows and 4-H.  She continued to show into her late 40s.

Some of her favorite pastimes were racing Craig's car "24X" in Powderpuff competitions, fishing, boating, camping, and going on cruises with Craig. She also enjoyed watching her sons and grandchildren play baseball.

Surviving are her six sons, David Sr. (Bertha) Norton of Shinglehouse, Duane Norton of Rixford, Daniel (Kellie) Norton, Dale Norton, Darren (Stephanie) Norton and Donny (Charlie) Norton, all of Shinglehouse; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; an older sister, Marjorie Costello of Lake Wales, Fla.; two younger brothers, Philip (Jacquie) Perkins of Oswayo and Duane (Sis) Perkins of Shinglehouse; a younger sister, Tobie (Dewey) Swift of Titusville; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mousie was predeceased by her older brother, Jack Perkins.

Per Mousie's wishes, a bonfire, burial, and a celebration of her life will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, at Norton's Campground, 2185 SR 44 South, Shinglehouse, with remarks by Pastor Clint Pearsall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mousie's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.

Yesterday

Mousie was special in many ways. She had a big heart, a sense of humor, and a willingness to help wherever needed --- in PA and FL. The kindness she and her family showed Mom (Lucille Lanphere) will always be remembered.
Thank you, Mousie.
