Robert Driscoll Obituary
OLEAN - Robert A. Driscoll Sr. passed away Saturday (Nov. 30, 2024) at Absolut Care of Aurora Park in East Aurora, after a long illness.
Born Feb. 27, 1933, in Olean, he was the son of Arthur and Doris Witherell Driscoll, and was formerly married to Mary "Mimi" Richardson.
Bob was a graduate of Olean High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served active duty from 1952 to 1955. He was a navy reservist until his honorable discharge in 1960.
He was an employee of the former Pennsylvania Railroad which later became Conrail and was an operating engineer. In his retirement he worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Olean, which he truly enjoyed.
He was a member of the Allegany American Legion and a former member of the Olean VFW. He grew up in the Catholic faith and had been a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church.
In his later years he enjoyed bicycle rides with his son Matthew on the local trails, as well as spending time painting landscapes.
He leaves behind three children, Robert Driscoll Jr. of Wellsville, Patricia (Maurice) Errington of Derby and Matthew Driscoll of Olean; two grandchildren, Don Errington and Tina Errington; three great-grandchildren, Paige, Hailey and Russell; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six brothers and sisters, Mary Jane Snyder, Joan Miller, John Driscoll, Marcella Drake, Margaret Morris and Ellen Dargay.
A memorial mass is being planned for spring at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and will be announced. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are with the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
