Shirley Pierce Phillips Obituary

ALLEGANY - Shirley Riordan Pierce Phillips passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, in Bacliff, Texas, surrounded by her family, after a long struggle with cirrhosis of the liver.
Born on Oct. 22, 1939, in Allegany she was the daughter of John "Monk" and Emma Miller Riordan.
Shirley attended Allegany Central School and worked at various places, including St. Bonaventure University and as operator of her own cleaning business. She volunteered for organizations such as the Olean Eagles Club, the Belmont Grange and VFW, as well as the Methodist church she formerly attended.
She is survived by five children, Ed (Karen) Pierce of Baytown, Texas, Catherine Liguori of Allegany, Diana Henderson of Bacliff, Lyle (Sherry) Pierce of Limestone and Scott (JoAnn) Pierce of Portville; 18 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, James Pierce; two brothers, Bill Riordan and Clarence Riordan; and two sisters, Rita Tatlow and Betty Prozeller.
The family will be present to receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Friday (Nov. 4, 2016) at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean. A memorial service will follow at noon in the funeral home. The Rev. Clara Wilder, pastor of River's Edge United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Allegany Cemetery.
