ELLICOTTVILLE - Thomas E. Woodin, 66, of Ellicottville, passed away Tuesday (June 17, 2025) at Olean General Hospital.

He was born March 19, 1959, in Salamanca, son of the late Raymond and Joan McClure Woodin. He married the former Lynn Kyser, who survives.

Tom was a lifelong handyman, beginning his mechanic work at Golley's Garage in Ellicottville, then the Town of Ellicottville before becoming a police officer for Ellicottville. He would later become acting police chief for Ellicottville before eventually becoming deputy sheriff for Cattaraugus County, from where he retired.

He had partaken in demolition derbies through the years as well as racing, especially at Holland Raceway. His racing fandom continued through his following of NASCAR, and in particular Ken Schrader.

Tom was a volunteer fireman for over 30 years with the Ellicottville Vol. Fire Dept., and was also a member of the Sons of American Legion, the Ellicottville American Legion and the Little Valley VFW.

He also always enjoyed the company of his dogs, Macey, Kelsey, Popeye and Dixie.

Tom was previously married to Mary Woodin of Great Valley, who survives, with whom he shared two children who also survive, Kevin Woodin of Ellicottville and Rachel Woodin of Great Valley. Also surviving is a stepson, Joseph Brockel of Olean; and two stepdaughters, Julie Rodriguez of Bradford, Pa. and Janette Brockel of Lawtons. He is also survived by a brother, Timothy Woodin of Ellicottville; a sister-in-law, Shelly Woodin of Franklinville; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Tom is predeceased by a brother, Daniel Woodin.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date to be announced.
