Andy was my history teacher at Mount Michael back in the early 80's, along with being our summer league baseball coach in 1980. A good teacher and a funny man. I fondly recall in class as he'd described how he would prepare a meal to eat, the mess associated with it, and the look of it and then he'd go on to say how perfect his wife would make and present the same meal. Great character and great connection to his students. My condolences to the Fidler family members.

I have such fond memories of Mr. Fidler at MNHS. He was a teacher and a friend. He was devoted to his students and would do anything to help another person. I remember many times just talking with him about big decisions I had to make about classes, college and volleyball. He would listen and offer wisdom I appreciated so very much. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Fidler was easily one of my favorite parts of high school. He took a vested interest in his student's lives and never held anyone's opinions against them even if he didn't agree with them. When I visited the school after graduating, he was always the first teacher I'd go to, and hearing him say he was proud of me for joining the Navy was something I'll cherish. Mr. Fidler was the person that actually inspired me to join a linguistic field because of his stories of Poland - something that's shaped my entire future so far.
I have many fond memories from his class, from his stories about Poland, his hero-worshipping of Napoleon, and his impersonation of Machiavelli - but I'd say the memory that sticks out most to me was when he received an email I sent out to all the faculty members of Millard North about displaying a Safe Space sticker in their window. I actually got in trouble for doing so, but he took me aside and said he'd be proud to have one. Knowing that I had an ally at school really gave me the confidence I needed, and that's a feeling I can't really capture with words.
To Mr. Fidler's family, I wish you the best and I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm sure you already know this, but you were blessed with having a truly amazing person in your lives.

I took AP Euro from Mr. Fidler and both of his Theory of Knowledge classes in high school. When I found out he taught a college history class I signed up for that as well. There are many people that simply pass through your life, however, he truly made a difference in mine. He helped shape the person I am today with his lessons, especially those in logic. He had a profound impact on my life. I am sadden that he has passed. Sending positive vibes to his family and loved ones-- he is someone that will live on in the many people who loved him.

I feel truly fortunate that I was able to have the one and only Mr. Fidler during his last three years at Millard North. He was my teacher for AP European History and Theory of Knowledge as well as my advisor for the Extended Essay. Not your average history teacher, Mr. Fidler was one of those educators that leaves an indelible impression on you. He was brilliant, funny, and he always challenged his students to make the most of their learning. My prayers are with his family right now. He will be sorely missed by many.

Mr. Fidler lived a few houses away from me when I was growing up and so I spent a fair amount of time over at his house playing with Nina. He was always welcoming and an excellent cook. My heart goes out to you, Nina and Tonya. Your dad was a good man and a good father. Even though we haven't stayed in contact, I can tell he raised driven, intelligent, confident girls. He had a lot to be proud of.

I recently go to know Mr Fidler and see the love he had for his children, and the unselfishness he had for the girls. I hope that I can take his example and be as kind and loving (and fun) to my own children. Thank you Nina for sharing your Dad with me the last few months.

Mr. Fidler taught so many of us how to open our minds, and learn from history. I owe him more than he ever knew and I am deeply saddened by his passing. It is so touching to see that so many other past MNHS students share the same grief for the loss of such an inspirational teacher. Deepest condolences to his family.

My condolences to the Fidler family. Fid was a very kind and decent man. I always enjoyed chatting it up with him in the locker room. I was so happy to see him this past hockey season since we hadn't seen each other for many years. As usual, he hung around much longer than he probably had planned just to check on how I had been doing. He will be missed.

Mr. Fidler was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He taught IB Theory of Knowledge in 2006 at 6:50am to give us a 0 hour so we could fit in more classes. He was always engaging, hilarious, and effective, even at such an early hour. I respected Mr. Fidler and loved his class. Now that I myself am a teacher, I try to emulate the creativity, humor, and engagement Mr. Fidler showed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

First my A.P. Euro. History teacher and adviser to the student Amnesty International club, then my mentor teacher when I did my student teaching to complete my teaching degree. A huge inspiration for why I got my History Ph.D., and why I then specialized as a professor of history education and supervisor to a new generation of student teachers. An incalculably large influence on my life, and so many others. I miss you, Andy.

Mr. Fidler also taught my AP European History class, my favorite class and teacher at MNHS. He loved the subject and had many stories to tell us throughout the course. It was amazing to see how he was able to get us all interested in the subject matter, but also teach us how to take a college test. I know I would never have been prepared for college without him. These all seem small things in this time of sadness but he truly made a difference in my life. My siblings had him as a teacher (Casey Brown '97, Colleen Brown '02) and will never forget the impression he made on our lives. Our thoughts and prayers with his daughters, family and friends.

Tonya and Nina,
You are in our thoughts and prayers. Your father was an icon at Millard North for many years. I always tried to emulate his professionalism, energy, and enthusiasm for teaching and for life. More importantly, he was SO proud that his daughters turned out to be good people. A great man, and that definitely deserves an "upward nod."

Mr. Fidler taught my AP European History class at Millard North in 1994 and, in the process, cultivated a love of history that exists in me to this day. I recall that he taught history like a story and it seemed to be from memory and effortless. More significantly, he treated us like adults and held us accountable -- something I'm sure I didn't always appreciate at the time but am grateful for now. The handful of times I've returned to MNHS, I always wanted to go see Mr. Fidler, if for no other reasons than to try to show that I had grown up a little and to tell him "thank you." I didn't do that and I regret it. He was a tremendous teacher.
And he told great Springsteen stories.
My heartfelt condolences.

Andy was a childhood friend. He taught my daughter and inspired her to pursue a life in the Peace Corps. She has gone on to a Masters Degree in global public health and currently works in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She has worked in Chad, Uganda. Ethiopia, Sudan and Kenya. Often her work has her in refugee camps. She has told us many times it was Andy who inspired her most as a teacher. He opened up her young mind to all the adventure that could be hers. We are very proud that she heeded his words. We are very saddened by the news of his death. He will be sorely missed by many students, parents, family and friends. May he rest in peace.

To the Fidler family, I was a student of Mr Fidler when he first came to Mount Michael. I believe he was one of the first lay teachers at the Mount and as such, was held in unique esteem by the student body. King Fid as we admireable called him would not only cover the academic topics of the syllabus, but would regale us with stories about Springsteen concerts and his numerous life experiences. He was a great teacher. I'm sorry for your loss.
