Calvin Dierking Obituary

Dierking, Calvin Clarke
Age 87

Everett, WA, formerly of Omaha, NE. Cal passed away peacefully on July 11, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born to Harry and Letitia Dierking on July 8, 1927 in Bristow, NE. His extended family were homesteaders on the Nebraska prairie, and he was raised on a steady diet of stories of the adventures of life in the wilds of Nebraska which he loved to retell. In the late 1930's, his family moved to Omaha where he attended Technical High School. After graduation, Cal enlisted in the US Navy for the final 2 years of WW2, serving in the Pacific. He returned to Omaha and married his true love and life partner, Bernice Boone; they were married for 67 wonderful years. Cal worked in Omaha for 32 years at Northern Natural Gas, starting as a Surveyor. While working full time and raising 3 children, he took night classes and received his Engineering Degree from University of Omaha, then worked for many years as an Engineer in the Computer Department of NNG. He retired in 1984 and moved with his wife to Everett. Cal was a steadfast Christian, modeling his faith in his daily life. He served as a deacon, elder, and youth leader at his Churches in Omaha (Covenant Presbyterian), and Everett (Cascade View Presbyterian). His quick wit and fun sense of humor drew people close, and he had many life long friends who loved and respected him. Cal is survived by wife Bernice; children and their spouses, Lynn (Karla), Michael (Barbara), and Carolee (Terry) Mech; grandchildren, Morgan, Mackenzie, Stephanie, Cassandra, and Jared; and great grandchildren, Ashlynn and Tucker. Cal was an only child, but held great brotherly bonds with his brothers-in-law, Allan (Bonnie), Lloyd (Judy), and Art (Sharon) Boone; and his dear cousins, Dick (Diane) Eiler, Ken Rundall, and Marji Cooney.
A MEMORIAL will be held at Cascade View Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. In lieu of flowers, if you so desire to remember him, you may contribute to the Memorial Fund at Cascade Presbyterian Church 1030 E. Casino Rd, Everett, WA 98203.

Worked with Cal for many years in Bob Healey's S&DP group. Cal had that sense of humor that enabled him to be very clever in designing tricks to play on the staff, especially his friend Charlie Fischer. Had lunch and talked with him about 1 year ago at the Enron Retiree's luncheon. We will miss him. gene diers

To Bernice, Lynn, Mike and Carol....Sally and I are sorry for your loss. Cal and his family lived behind us in Omaha. They were good neighbors and we enjoyed them for many years before they moved to Washington. Cal's son Mike and I were good friends growing up and we spent a lot of time together. He was with me when I met Sally for the first time. Cal will be missed by many!
