David Mann Obituary

David R Mann

November 20, 1959 - February 28, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, David R. Mann, age 65. He unexpectedly passed away on February 28, 2025. David was born on November 20, 1959, to Marcia and Robert Mann in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up on Gifford Farm in Bellevue where he was active in 4H and grew up with many fond memories at the Sarpy County Fair and Rodeo. He graduated from Bellevue West in 1978 and married the love of his life, Dana, in 1986. They had 3 children, who were his pride and joy.

He went on to join the Omaha Fire Department where his leadership shined as captain. During his last seven years on OFD, he served in the Public Education Department working with at-risk children and families as a positive role model and pioneer for fire prevention.

David never met a stranger and truly had a servant's heart. He was an active member at St. Michael Lutheran church and led mission trips, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. David felt passionately about teaching youth and created "Cowboy Dave", an educational presentation about the life lesson of respect, the cowboy way.

After retirement, he and Dana moved to New Jersey to be near their grandchildren. Being a grandfather was his greatest joy and "Baba" was their most favorite playmate. His positivity, integrity, and zest for life will live on through his children, grandchildren, and all those impacted by his goodness. There is no doubt that his cowboy heart is happy as he lets out a "YEE HAW!" from heaven.

David was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Marcia Mann. He is survived and missed by his wife, Dana Mann; daughter, Rachel (Steve) Hayes; and sons, Paul Mann and Richard Mazikani; his two beloved grandchildren who were the light of his life, Michael and Madison Hayes; his brothers, Jerry (Jane) Mann, Chuck (Donna) Mann, and sister Susie (Bob) Engberg.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 7th from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 13232 Blondo St, Omaha, NE 68164. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 8th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 13232 Blondo St, Omaha, NE 68164. A reception to celebrate David will be held immediately following. The service will be live streamed at https://saintmichaellutheran.org/specialevents/.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Michael's Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, or to the family to help establish the David Mann Memorial Scholarship.

I got this notice about David two days ago. It's late to send this, however, I am hit hard to hear of it. I don't know if you will remember me, but Jeanne (my sister) and I boarded our horses with your family and going there to ride or help clean chickens, skate on the pond or whatever we did was like being with family. David teased us at first about riding "English" but then he became interested in what we were training and the results. He was always thinking and full of questions and ideas and we had so much fun with him. Susie and Chuck, thank you for the good times through the years and for making me feel at home. All family members, I send you love and prayers for healing. David, I will never forget you. Laura

I realize this entry is late, but I just learned of David's passing. My sister Laura and I boarded our horses at Mann's Farm. David was a boy then and we just loved him and the whole family. Chuck and Susie, I pray both of you are doing ok. I loved every minute I spent with you and your family. It was like a second home. Jeanne Halsey

I had the honor and privilege of working with David on the OFD many years ago. David made the job a better place because of his integrity and great smile. The video was an excellent tribute to a wonderful person, and now he is receiving his rewards with the Lord! Tim Melonis-Bella Vista, Arkansas

Dave was a good friend with whom I shared many days roping steers both in the local pen and in Arizona. He was good with animals and always treated them kindly. He loved his family and was close to his Savior. He is in a better place but will be missed by many.RIP
