Dennis McIntyre

Dennis was born in Fargo, N.D., in 1946 and moved to north Omaha in 1953. He graduated from North High School in 1964 and earned a bachelors and two masters degrees from the University of Nebraska. He married Cheryll Smith in 1967, and they raised two children together, Alyssa and Peter. Dennis began his career teaching social studies at Westside in 1969, transitioned into media and technology, always pursuing his passion as an educator, and retired from the district 40 years later.

Family, nature, music, technology, yard work, photography, serendipity and being a great neighbor all defined his enjoyment of life and others.

Professional service and organizations included NETA (Nebraska Education Technology Association), Nebraska State Board of Education, PDK International (educators organization). Over the years, Dennis also enjoyed his activities with groups of colleagues, neighbors, and friends, such as the Benson Historical Society; Westbrook fishing group; breakfast group; geezer group.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Cheryll; son, Peter; daughter, Alyssa; son-in-law, Kyle; grandson, Casey; sister-in-law, Christi; and brother-in-law, Bernie; nephew, Gregg; niece, Liz; and nephew-in-law, Gerome; grandniece, Elouise; grandnephews, Gannon and Griffin; brother, Patrick; nephews, Robert and Brian. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth; sister, Kathleen; brother, Michael; father-in-law, Wayne; and mother-in-law, Ardith; and sister-in-law, Roxie.

We will gather to share memories on Friday, October 10, 4 to 6 p.m., at John A. Gentleman, 14151 Pacific St. Omaha.

Memorial donations to Fontenelle Forest or Westside Foundation, two places close to Dennis' heart, would be a welcome remembrance.
