Marcia and family,
My heart goes out to you all as you go through the passing of this wonderful man. I have been so touched by reading all the remembrances in his Guest Book.
I so agree with all...........
That he passed wearing his NH Viking shirt just brought tears. As a former Viking I remember Don always remembering that we were 'fellow Vikings', as well as you, Marcia.
I met the two of you in 1985 and you very soon become one of my 'favorites', always wonderful to work for.
Don's accomplishments in all his endeavors will long be remembered. I feel so proud to have known him.
Hold all these memories tight...they will bring comfort through this most difficult time.

I met coach Hinkle during my very brief venture into football at North High School. I was immediately impressed with his professionalism. He treated all prospective players with empathy and dignity. He inspired respect without demanding it. It was obvious to me that he was unique among coaches. We remained friendly during my high school years. I liked cars and I remember talking to him about his Corvette. This guy was "cool", no doubt.

I send my condolences to his family and all who will mourn his passing.

Sincerely,

Scott Barry

Marcia and Family my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I will always have fond memories of working with Don at CBSHOME's West Dodge Sales office. What a great guy he was. Always so considerate, helpful and caring.

September 26, 2012

I was a student at N.H.S.in '62. He was my study hall teacher. He had me come to football practice after school since I had acted up in study hall. That was the first time I received a paddling for my conduct. "Thankyou sir, can I please have another?" And I did. I know I deserved it and as a result, learned some boundaries we all needed. Then years later he shows up at my office at CBS R.E. We had a great relationship ever since. I will miss his always pleasant nature and presence.
Marcia, we can't make the funeral since we don't live there anymore. Our sincere condolences go out to you and your family..Chris and Richard Morgan.

Dear Hinkle family, I am so sorry to hear of Coach's passing. Don Hinkle was a tremendous positive influence in my life and he will be missed by many. He was an outstanding coach and mentor and he helped to guide me as I chose a career in education. I will always remember him telling a group of skinny, scrawny sophomore offensive line to "never take a back seat to anyone" as we prepared to scrimmage the Varsity during one practice. We didn't "take a back seat" and we became one of the best football teams in ALHS history. Marcia, thanks for all you and Don did for Sharon and me as young adults trying to purchase our first home. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Unfortunately I have only had the pleasure of knowing Don for about the last five years. I was just starting my remodeling and contracting business in Omaha and he was one of my first customers. As I worked for him here and there on his rentals we also became friends. When he told me he had been fighting cancer for many years I could not believe it. Here was a man that was then probably 71 to 72 fighting cancer, working his real estate business, and working on his rentals until late hours of the night. What an inspiration to us all to keep fighting and never give up. He always greeted me with a friendly hand shake and a smile no matter how he may have been feeling on the inside. Now Don the fight is over and your work here is done. I am sure you are tinkering in a woodshop somewhere though. May your work there be peaceful now my friend.

The first time I met Coach Hinkle was for registrering for football my sophmore year at CB AL high school. He said I was 5ft 9 inches tall. I said coach, I'm not 5'9, I am only 5'6. He said, "you are with your helmet and cleets on". That was the start of a friendship with one of the most inspiring person, I have ever met. Coach Hinkle instilled disciplne confidence in all he said and did. Teamwork, respnsibility, an endless desire to win at what ever he did. Thank You Coach Hinkle for all you did for me. May you rest in peace coach, and may the Good Lord Bless his family.

I remember all the good times we shared while growing in Beaver City. And our friendship continued on through grade and high school, and still exists today. I still remember you telling me that while you lived in Calif for a short time, that you were a contestant on the TV show " Hollywood Squares" and that Loni Anderson was a real eye turner. I appreciate that everytime you came to BC, you always stopped by my home just to relive the old days. Rest In Peace Don, I'll always remember you.
Your BCHS Classmate, and friend.

To Coach Hinkle from the Class of "1968" Thank you for your leadership, guidiance, coaching, and teaching; not only during our high school years, but after we departed North High School. You would always find the time to join us for celebrations honoring our tenure as well as homecoming games or just to hang around with your old team. Hopefully we were able to convey to you how much that meant to us. Rest in Peace Mr. Hinkle knowing that your amazing spirit will remain a part of our lives and close to our hearts forever. You were truly one of a kind and our "hero".
To the Hinkle family may you find comfort as you celebrate the life of your loved one, knowing the class of "1968" will be lifting you up in our thoughts and in prayers.
