Dora Secor Obituary

Age 81, Omaha, NE. Entered her new life on September 18, 2011. She was born at home in Gladbrook, IA to Lawrence and Geneva Putney. Jean was the beloved mother of Darcy Secor Juraska (John), Glen Elynn, IL, Dr. Mark Richard Secor (Laura), Berea, KY, Richard Eugene Secor, Jr. (Sharon), Omaha, and Dr.Thomas Eldridge Secor (Christina), Harrisburg, SD. She was also loving grandmother to Andrew, John Scott, Stuart, Neal, Sean, Spencer, Nikolas, Loren and Nathan; great-grandmother to Jadon, Tevin and Nicholas; sister of Mark Putney, John Putney, and Joan Putney Tews (deceased). Jean graduated from Glad-brook High School in 1947. She attended Lindenwood University, St. Charles, MO and graduated in 1956 from the University of Iowa with a BA in Economics. She met Richard Eugene Secor, Sr. in 1951 and they were married that same year. Jean was an avid golfer and enjoyed tennis. She had many other interests and was a member of several organizations: American Association of University Women, life member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association, Iowa Archeological Society, Des Moines Lapidary Society, Midwest Paleontology Society, Cedar Valley Gem and Mineral Club, Iowa Geological Society, Blackhawk Gem and Mineral Club, Tama County Historical Society, The Nature Conservancy, a supporter of the National Trust for Historical Preservation, and long-time member of MENSA.
Friends are invited to celebrate Jean's life 10:30am, Saturday, October 15, at the Nature Center at Otter Creek Lake and Park, 2283 Park Road, Toledo, IA. Luncheon immediately following Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 12565 West Center Rd, Omaha, NE 68144 or Good Samaritan Society, 12856 Deauville Dr., Omaha, NE 68137.

You are in our thoughts and prayers at this time... your mother was quite a gifted woman and shared many of the same interests as my mother...they were best golf buddies at Benson and Sunset.
