When I was getting married, I asked Mother if she thought Uncle Fr. Gene would come to Virginia to perform the sacrament. My wife Jeannie still has the letter saying that he would be delighted to say the Nuptial Mass uniting us on August 23, 1969. Our marriage has been a special blessing because of Fr. Gene.
Twice over the years, we traveled to Nebraska to visit him- now bringing along our daughter Stephanie.
He loved driving us around- pointing out the house where we lived while my dad was overseas serving in the Army. He shared many stories of our childhood.
A special treat was going inside St Cecila Cathedral where my parents married.
I loved his voice.
I was always proud to know I was his namesake.

Dear Fr. Gene, will missed my uncle and
great uncle. Thank you very much your gifts you gave us through the years. We live so apart across the country and still communicated with each other all those years. Sorry we are not able to come to your services. You are in our prayers. May the Christ be with you.

Father Kerwin,
You came to our First Grade class in 1969 to begin teaching us Catholic formation as young innocent children. You were the priest who administered my First Holy Communion and The Sacrament of Penance. I served as an alterboy at St Robert's from 1975-1977. You were my first employer as I worked as a yard maintenance worker at St. Robert's for my first "real job."
Thank you for life of dedication to Christ and His work. We spoke last month and again I was awed by your example of faith. I know that you are with Christ in Heaven. I thank you for your life of service to the St. Robert's community and the Church.

Father Kerwin, You've been an integral part of our family for 40some years. You've played a significant role in my faith formation; blessed am I to have had you celebrate all of my sacraments with me. A privilege to have had you join Joe and my life together with Christ in Holy Matrimony.
Back in about 3rd or 4th grade, I went with my St Robert's class to Reconciliation. I went into your confessional, and knelt behind the screen - anonymity is best, I figured, when the priest is one of my parents' best friends. After going through my sins and asking for forgiveness, you said, "Dianna, for your confession, I'd like you to say 3 Hail Marys and 3 Our Fathers." So much for anonymity!
Thank you for your presence in my life and for your example of love, strength and unwavering faith.

Father-
We are deeply saddened by your passing, but find comfort in our many fond memories of you. You were truly a great man and an inspiration to us all. We are better people and Christians because of you. Thank you for your friendship, especially to our Dad in recent weeks. We are privileged to have been a part of your life. You will remain forever in our hearts.
All our love-

Father Kerwin was the pastor at my church and oversaw all my catechism. He was incredible and taught myself and my 7 siblings an amazing sense of being Catholic.

Once a friend and coworker asked me which church I attended. I replied St. Robert's. She smiled a great big smile and asked if Father Kerwin was still there. I explained to her that he retired, and she shared a very cute story. She stated that when she was only 2 or 3 years old, her parents took her to St. Robert's one Sunday. Of course, being a toddler, she couldn't see anything except the people in front of her. She clearly remembers hearing Father Kerwin's voice and thinking that it was God's voice she was hearing!!! I am sure anyone who has heard Msgr. Kerwin's voice can appreciate that story. I shared that story with him at the reception celebrating the 50th anniversary of his ordination. I think he got a kick out of it.
We were so lucky to have him at St. Robert's. He was a fine man, a fine priest, and a very special person who made a positive impact on countless lives. Although I feel a great loss here on earth, I am happy to know that he has seen Jesus' face.

When my siblings and I were students at St. Roberts we experienced a stern rules-oriented Fr. Kerwin that we were terrified of. Then one weekend my parents invited him over for dinner and we discovered a kind and gentle side to him. When I became old enough that I actually listened to his sermons, there were many that touched and blessed my heart.

I have many fond memories of Fr. Kerwin going back to when he was a young assistant at St. Bernard's. He was part of our family for anniversaries, weddings, and funerals. He was always there when needed, as a priest and friend. He has truly earned his reward.

Father Kerwin was one outstanding man and priest. Father K saw St. Roberts (church/parish)grow from his home on Leavenworth St. to the awesome structure we all marvel at now on 119th. I will always think of Fr. Eugene Kerwin when I see that church from now on....
Father occasionally enjoyed a Johnnie Walker Black label beverage at the end of his grueling day......and I will tip one for you Padre for all you have done for me, the Finocchiaro family and the whole family that is St. Roberts Parish

Fr. Kerwin... In 1974, as an 8th grader at St. Roberts, I presented you with a plaque from our graduating class stating that you were the "best priest in the world." For years you would often repeat the same story to me of how you kept hold of that plaque for so long. Now, 35 years later, our Almighty Father is greeting you with the same message. Thank you so much for all you did for so many.
God bless,
Dan

I remember a young priest assistant to Monsignor A.S.Kluthe at St. Bernard's Church. He would come into the classrooms at the grade school. We loved hia attention. He was a very important part of our religious education. CYO classes made a big difference to those of us who couldn't afford the Catholic highschools, and he kept us on the right path.
He will be missed.

I remember Mass in the rectory basement at 11707 Leavenworth, in the Crestridge gym, and the first church. I remember 8th grade graduation, four Schultz weddings, the baptism of my daughters and the comfort I found with you the morning my father died. Father Kerwin will forever be part of the most joyous Schultz family memories.

Msgr. Eugene Kerwin, Father Kerwin to all of the Minton's, was the closest to a brother my Father ever had. Next to my father, Father Kerwin was the most important man in my life and I loved him so much. He married Julie and I, he baptized my children, and he was there for us when we buried our son John Dennis. Now he is with his Heavenly Father for whom he devoted his life. God Bless You Father Kerwin, you will be missed and loved forever.

Good bye Padre'! You were family and will be missed so much. Many memories of great times came flooding back; from Baptisms of my brothers, nieces and nephews, weddings, breakfasts after Sunday masses at Crestridge; songs by the piano, dinners at Mom and Dad's, talks of Church Doctrine and an occasional "Wink of Booze"; please know that you will be thought of often with love and respect.
It was a privilege to have you as the Ancona family spiritual leader and dear friend. I am sure that God opened the gates for you and you are eternally happy.
Love Always,
