Kathleen, I know that this Mothers Day will be hard on you as it will be the first of many to come without Garrett, but rest assured that you are in my heart daily. If you ever want to talk, yell, scream,cry or whatever, just want someone to listen, you know I will always be here for you. You can contact me through my parents and remember I walked in your shoes and know first hand all the feelings and emotions that are overcoming you daily. It does not ever go away, but in time it does get easier. Please dont hesitate to call me, family we will always be no matter what. I love you dearly.

My heart aches for you, for all of you, so deeply right now. I truly feel this loss with you. I did not get to know Garrett, but I have known you, Kathy, for a long time, so I know that Garrett experienced a wonderful and always happy life. The memories you built during the last 10 years will hurt at times, but will give you so much joy in the times to come. And when times are sad, Garrett will always be there to put a happy, funny memory in your heart to help you through it. I am not going to try to tell you it gets better, but I can tell you that it will get easier. I am a Teacher at Benson West. I did not have the opportunity of meeting Garrett but I remember seeing his smiling face in the hallway. So many of the teachers here are devastated. They shared many of the good memories that I felt like I knew him. I want to let you know that ALL of the staff here at Benson West is deeply saddend of your loss. He will be missed by all of us!

It's hard to find the right words to express how truley sad I am about Garrett. I never met your son, but when I saw his picture with his BIG smile, I knew he had lived every day to the fullest. Playing ball with his friends, running through the neighborhood or picking on his little sister. He was full of life. I have learned something from this experience, I hug my two daughters more and tell them I love them everyday. I take the time to listen to them more closely and let them know how much better my life is with them in it. May God be with you and know that you will see Garrett again. Garrett was one of many children I have been honored to care for and love, but the time he spent here for daycare the past two years has given me many many memories that I will never forget. I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.

But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

Though I never personally met Garrett, I feel I know him from all the loving things his aunt Paula had to say. The loss of a child is one of life’s cruelest tragedies and unimaginable to most parents. I too lost my 19-year-old son a couple of years ago and though you may not believe it now, life does go on. It will never be the same without your precious Garrett, but hold dear the memories and he will live on in your heart forever.

As you already know was about the sweetest little guy I ever met! My daughter Alexys Townsend thought very highly of him. Every time she spoke of Garrett it was nothing but positive, happy and wonderful fun things he either said or did. I did not know Garrett, but Garrett touched my daughters heart, he was in her class this year, and she was a cheerleader for The Omaha Chiefs, she said he was everyones' friend, and that she and her class miss him very much. I am very sorry for your loss I know there is little one can say at a time like this, Garret was one of the nicest, kindest and most likable boys that I have ever had the honor of having in the Chiefs family.
I want you to know that number 31 will now be retired. The big quarter back in the sky is now playing catch with Garret and holding him close. He will always be in our thoughts and he will always be part of our lives, Once a Chief always a Chief. God be with you in these hard times, as we will be there for anything you need.
