Stanley, Sr. MD, Gerard Joseph
October 12, 1948 - May 20, 2024
Gerard Joseph Stanley, Sr. MD, known to all that met him as "Gerry" or "Doc," was born on October 12, 1948, and passed away on May 20, 2024, surrounded by his family, after a heroic, yet short, battle with pancreatic cancer. Gerry fought his cancer with a fighter's spirit, and never wavered in his faith that God had a plan for him. Gerry lived his life with a deep faith and a profound devotion to the Holy Family and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
In 1977 Gerry married his long-time Lillis High School friend, Margaret Mary Cushing, affectionately known as Midge. The couple raised four children, Gerry, Jr., Katy, Mike and Chuck. Their 45 year journey took them to multiple locations in Mexico and the United States, and was founded on laughter, faith, friendship, and love. Gerry relished partaking in celebrating the milestones of his family's lives and adored his 10 wonderful grandchildren.
Gerry will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and physician. Gerry's true passion was his 45 year practice of family medicine, where he touched the lives of countless individuals. His far reaching impact cannot be quantified with words in an obituary, but those that he touched will remember him for his unfailing pursuit to heal the sick, comfort the dying and bring new life to the world. He spent a lifetime studying and speaking about the physical aspects of Jesus' Passion and Death and received international recognition for his book entitled, "He Was Crucified". He never wanted the spotlight for himself, but contributed generously of his time and talent to his communities, countless organizations and his local parishes as a lector, eucharistic minister and patron on various committees. He will also be remembered for a sharp sense of humor and quick wit.
Gerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Mary (Midge) Stanley in June of 2022; mother and father, Dr. Charles and Bernandine Stanley of Kansas City, MO; his in-laws, Michael P. and Lucille Cushing of Kansas City; his older brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Laura Stanley of Overland Park, KS; brothers-in-law, Captain Richard Lynn of LaBelle, FL, Ed Hannon of Hobe Sound, FL and Dennis Cushing of Kansas City, KS; as well as nephews, Mike Hannon, Jeremy Cushing; and niece, Jan Rogers.
