Gray Potter Obituary

Gray Mathew Potter

July 4, 1958 - September 24, 2025

Gray Mathew Potter, lovingly known by everyone as "Yogi", passed away at his home in Glens Falls, N.Y., on September 24, 2025, at the age of 67.

Born (July 4, 1958) and raised in Glens Falls, he graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1977. He spent several years in Jackson Hole, Wyo., before returning to Glens Falls to form a business and start a family with his former wife, Diane (Dede) Potter.

He is survived by his sons, Murphy Potter (fiancée, Emily Daley) and Gray Potter; his siblings, Tracey Stamatel (Thomas Stamatel), Mel Wrye (David Wrye), Stevee Vittengl (Bob Vittengl), Jayme Harvey (David Harvey), Debbie Hoesterey (John Hoesterey), and Jimmy Potter (Sue Potter); his granddaughter, Sasha; as well as several nieces and nephews, notably Lauren Stamatel, Andrew Stamatel, and Taylor Wrye with whom he has maintained close connections in recent years. Yogi was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mary Ann Potter and his sister, Kim Bixler.

Yogi was always warm, friendly, compassionate, and fun, which brought him numerous lifelong, beloved friends. He was known by his family and friends for his sense of humor, his ability to tell a good story, and his inclination to always stand up for doing the right thing. He was a proud, supportive father, often finding the time to coach his kid's youth sports teams before transitioning to the role of biggest (and loudest) fan during high school sports.

Yogi's creativity was best captured through his beautiful photography, thoughtful poems, and well-manicured gardens. His successful stone masonry business, with partner Randy Provost, also provided an artistic outlet for him, and his stonework will be admired for generations to come. Two of Yogi's favorite passions were skiing and music. He was an avid skier (aka Snow Pig), which helped lead him to Jackson Hole, before he returned to Glens Falls where he exclusively skied the Potter family favorite, West Mountain. He was known for his large record and CD collection, his at home and on-the-go sound systems to always set the mood, and his impressive list of concerts attended.

Calling hours will be held at the Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home (Bay Road in Queensbury, N.Y.) on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a short memorial service to honor Yogi's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in his memory to a charity of one's choice, or simply ask that you raise a glass, make some turns, or share a good story in his memory.

Gray "Yogi" Potter will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever admired and cherished.
