Harry Potter Obituary

POTTER-Harry Wayne died 7/6/2008, peacefully at his home after a long illness. Mr. Harry Potter (who greatly enjoyed his name's recent fame) was born 3/25/1918 in Jerico Springs, MO to Harry Potter and Jessie Bridger Potter. Mr. Potter joined the Army as a young man and then found employment in Lincoln, NE where he met Marie Weis of Fillmore County, NE. They were married on 1/3/1942 in a St. Mary's Church near Schickley, NE where Marie's family farmed. The onset of WWII had hastened their wedding and Harry joined the 112th Cavalry in June of 1942. This was the last horse-riding unit of the American forces. He served 38 months without a furlough until 12/21/1945. His service was mainly in the South Pacific and ended with him being severely wounded on Luzon Island, 7/28/1945, just weeks before the war ended. He returned to his wife in Omaha and began his long career as an electrician at Swift & Co. Harry and Marie raised seven children in a house that Harry built on North 60th Street. They were devoted parishioners of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Harry was a handsome man, widely known for his kindness, gentleness and incessant good humor. Harry is survived by his wife, Marie, and children, Gene (Maureen) Potter of Broomfield, CO, Jane Potter, MD (Daniel Schafer MD) of Omaha, NE, Kathy Potter DVM, PhD (Thomas Besser DVM, PhD) of Moscow, ID, Gerald (Deborah) Potter of Moore, OK, Robert Potter PhD (Rosa Guedes PhD) of Philadelphia, PA and Mary (Daniel) Sweeney of Yamhill, OR; 18 grandchildren and 21 great grand children. Harry was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Sullivan, in 1996, great-grandson Dylan Hopkins in 2001 and by 10 sisters and brothers.
SERVICES Wednesday 9:30am at the 72nd St. Chapel to St. Bernard Catholic Church at 10am. Entombment Calvary Cemetery. VISITATION Tuesday 6-8pm with a Wake Service at 7pm at the 72nd St. Chapel. Memorials suggested to St. Bernard Church or Masses. JOHN A. GENTLEMANMORTUARIES
