James Merrifield Obituary

Age 84. Passed away at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. He was born in Council Bluffs to Maude and James Merrifield. James joines the Army on April 14,1945 and served for 25 years retiring as Command Sargent Major. James was united in marriage to Paula Ives on November 22, 1947. James retired from Omaha Public Schools after 22 years of service as a Stationary Engineer. A longtime member of Broadway Christian Church and also worked for Corum's Flower Shop. He is preceded in death by his wife Paula, and son in law, Dennis Franklin. Survivors include Dennis P. Merrifield and wife Erin, Colorado Springs, CO, Janice Franklin, Copperas Cove, TX, Michael J. Merrifield and wife Candace, Council Bluffs, IA, Robin G. Millsap and husband Boyd, Council Bluffs, IA, Lori S. Merrifield and husband Richard, Pisgah, IA; Wendy Merrifield, Council Bluffs, IA; 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.
VISITATION with the family Friday from 6-8pm at Funeral Home. FUNERAL Saturday 10am, Broadway Christian Church. Interment Cedar Lawn Cemetery with military rites by Iowa National Guard, Honor Guard. Lunch will follow at Broadway Christian. Memorials to American Cancer and Broadway Christian Church. CUTLER-O'NEILL-MEYER-WOODRING

I WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR OF JAMES PASSING. WE HAD NOT BEEN IN CONTACT SINCE WE DACTIVATED OUR ARTILLERY BATTALION AT FORT CARSON IN 1967. HE WAS AN OUTSTANDING SGT MAJ, AND KEPT ME STREIGHT AS THE BN CO.
