Janet Hemphill Obituary
September 9, 1945 - June 16, 2025
Janet LaNore Livingston Hemphill, 79, of Omaha, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025. Born in Nebraska to Gerald and Gen (Steuteville) Livingston, she was a lifelong musician, educator, and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
A graduate of Nebraska City High School, Janet married Thomas "Tom" Hemphill in 1963. She taught piano, voice, and organ for decades and served as longtime choir director at First Presbyterian Church in Nebraska City.
She is survived by her husband, Tom; children, David (Beth) Hemphill, and Janna Peterson; granddaughters, Bailey (Ben) McDonnell, Carlyn (Patrick) Stone, and Jenna Peterson; great-granddaughter, Theodora Stone; sister-in-law, Marcia (Craig) Schroeder; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and in-laws, Robert and Bernice (Hohnroth) Hemphill.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 3, at 10:30 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Nebraska City, Neb. Interment will follow at Wyuka Cemetery, with a gathering and lunch to greet the family immediately afterward.
Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Nebraska City, and the Nebraska Humane Society.
