Age 75. Died at her residence. She was born in Polk County, NE to parents, Edward J. and Lucie (Farmer) Rolenc. Joan went to a country school in Ulysses, NE, and graduated from Ulysses High School in 1955. She attended a 2-year College Teacher's course at Concordia College in Seward, NE. She taught at the County Grade School in Beaver Crossing, NE for 2 years before moving to Lincoln, NE, where she worked until moving to New Jersey with her family. Joan was a former Councilperson, Franklin Township, Somerset, NJ, also Mayor of Somerset, NJ. She was elected to the Council on July 1, 1981 to a 4-year term. In 1996, Joan was elected for another 4-year term. She enjoyed working for the people of her community. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where she served on many ministries and services. She was most proud of working with Eastern Pregnancy Information Center, helping those in crisis pregnancy to keep their babies. She was a member of the Come Home Program, The Senior Pharmacy Program-Advisory Council, Religious Community Services feeding the needy, Secretary for the New Bern Chamber of Commerce's Non-Profit Council representing St. Paul, and worked on the 2005 Church Directory. She was a vender at the Farmer's Market as the owner of JoNeeB Impressions. Preceding her in death were her parents, Edward and Lucie (Farmer) Rolenc; and sisters, Rita Hruska, and Mary Josephine Gable. She is survived by 4 daughters, Theresa Cruz, Piscataway, NJ, Dorothy Nordmeyer, Nazareth, PA, Christina Dunbar, Hillsborough, NJ, and Julee Bottcher, Monmouth Beach, NJ; 8 grandchildren; twin sister, Jean McGarry, Woodbrige, VA; sisters, Anita Reid, Carrollton, GA, Michaelene Meyer, Manassas, VA, Bridget Rolenc, Omaha; and brothers, Edward Rolenc, Iowa, and Daniel Rolenc, Colorado.
The family will Receive friends at 6pm, with 7pm ROSARY at Oscar's Mortuary. FUNERAL will be 1pm Monday, St. Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to St. Paul Building Fund, 3005 Country Club Rd., New Bern, NC 28562; or Eastern Pregnancy Information Center, New Bern and Kinston Administrative Office P.O.
