Dear Joey,
I don't even know how to start this. I am so sorry I didn't see this post on facebook much sooner. I can't believe that you're gone. I will never forget meeting you at VSA in 1997 and becoming friends with you. I can still hear your voice yelling up the the stairs traveling from either the basement or 1st floor all the way to the attic. You would call for Steph and me to come down so you could tell us or show us something. We would sit and talk on the stairways and wait till we would get in trouble for not being in our rooms. You made that year so much fun for me. You were always full of life, laughter, energy and sassiness! You would constantly play jokes on me and keeping things real. You and your sarcasm made many of us smile each and every day. After we moved on we still kept in touch. I was so excited to here you would be coming to NYC. It seems like yesterday when we would walk around NYC together going to a fun party, a movie, for some coffee or grabbing food together. We would talk about dance, gossip, and talked about our future. Of course back in the day we thought we had it all figured out… We would always bust on each other but at the end of the day we had so many good times and laughs together. We would keep in touch for many years emailing and even some calls and then we lost tough for several years as we made our path for our adult life. I remember reconnecting and briefly talking about our businesses. You seemed so happy and I was so happy for your Joey! You were took your love and passion for dance and inspiring other young dancers. We talked about the possibility of you coming to NYC in the future for dance, and getting together. I was so excited to think we might be able to spend time catching up over dinner and drinks. Who knew you would leave us so soon. I am sad to find out we won't be able to meet again anytime soon. Joey, your spirit and laughter will never be forgotten! I will cherish our memories and time together. I am grateful I had the pleasure meeting you at VSA back in 1997.
My heart goes out to your family, friends and all your students. We are all blessed to have known you.
Farewell! God knows when we shall meet again.~William Shakespeare

We'll miss your sweet smile and sparkling blue eyes, but the mark you left on the world will live on forever. Wishing love and peace to you and your family.

Joey,
You always had a sunny disposition, talent that was unrivaled, and compassion for those around you. It was a pleasure dancing with you at VSA. I wish we could have stayed in touch. The entire dance community is a better place for all the passion you brought. God must have needed another angel because only the good die young. Much love to you and your family near and far.

Dear Joey, you will be missed. In the year we were classmates, you became a fast friend. Always sweet, always encouraging, you were quick to cheer me up with your bright laughter and even brighter blue eyes. Your dedication to dance was unwavering, and your enthusiasm spread to all of us. My condolences go out to Joey's family, friends, and students. In recognition of our shared devotion to ballet, I will be making a donation to my company in Joey's memory.

Meeting Joey at VSA for the summer program, was a treasure. Sophomore year, at VSA, was a blast with him, the laughter he created with his beautiful personality will never be forgotten. Fran, my deepest condolence to you and your family. You have always been a light in my life and I'm sorry you are hurting. I know he was your life, your protector, friend. The wisdom he had at such a young age. He could have only learned the goodness in his soul from you. You were brave to have let him go to New York so young. Because you believed in him, that made him believe in himself and in turn he helped so many people reach for their dreams. He will be with us all in memories. I'm praying for you always Fran. God Bless you.

I was Director of Dance at the Virginia School of the Arts and remember Joey very well. My strongest recollections are rehearsals with him in Balanchine's Allegro Brilliante, Bosman's Foot Steps in the Sand, and my Palladio. Joey was a strong dancer, performer and student. He was quick to smile with a "naughty" twinkle in his eye, full of life and passion. I wept last evening after hearing of his passing. I will make a donation in his name to the new Theatre at ASFA, (Alabama School of Fine Art) and dedicate a new work to him this coming Spring. Adieu, Joey.

I am still shocked when I think that I won't be seeing Joey around anymore. He has always been a great friend and I will miss him very much. It is so hard to believe that we won't be seeing his amazing pieces of choreography on stage anymore. Joey was an amazing teacher, a wonderful choreographer and he has given every one of his students a magic and a passion that cannot be recreated. I know that Joey is looking down on us from heaven smiling. I will miss you forever my friend.

Joey touched the lives of everyone around him. My daughter, Tori, was extremely fortunate to have Joey as a mentor, a dance instructor and a friend. Like many teens, she had given up on dance and he inspired her to dance again. His contribution to all the dancers who knew him WILL live on in their performances. Fran, you raised a beautiful dancer, dedicated instructor and remarkable individual. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Oh, please don't go
Let me have you just one moment more
Oh, all I need
All I want is just one moment more
You've got to hold me yeah, and keep me, now
Tell me, how someday you'll be returning
And maybe, maybe I'll believe
It's just enough to see a shooting star
To know you're never really far
It's just enough to see a shooting star
To know you're never really gone
I love you Joey!

The news of Joey passing has reached the shores of Australia. I danced with Joey 10 years ago professionally on Carnival Cruise Ships. He was always a joyous, free spirited young man. Even when he was a performer he used to talk about his passion for teaching, so to hear he was able to influence and guide young dancers on their journey through teaching in recent years his legacy will live on through hearts he touched. From Australia with love to his family in this difficult time.
