Joe was the oldest of my three brothers. We were separated by 11 years, and by the time I was 7 or 8 he had already moved out of the house to attend college. As a result I only have fragmented memories of him while growing up. One lasting image I have is when he and Sherry made a surprise visit during one of our summer vacations spent at Indian Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate NY. They canoed out to our island campsite. Neither Joe or Sherry could be considered "outdoor" people back then, and they were probably the last people I ever expected to see in a canoe that day. I don't remember how long they stayed, but we all had a wonderful time together. I do remember missing him as they paddled away, not knowing when I'd see him again.
Over the many decades since that summer vacation, I didn't see him very often. I enjoyed the few times we saw each other and missed him soon afterwards. Strangely enough, that feeling has now once again returned only deeper.
My sincerest sympathies to Sherry, Steven and Stuart. Joe will surely be missed...

Sherry and family, Joe will always have a special place in my heart. Joe hired me as a chemist at the Missouri River Division Laboratory in 1989. In 2002 while we were both at the EM CX, Joe and I spent most of our time collaborating with EPA on electronic data deliverables for chemistry data. The framework and structure that we use today for electronic data is based on Joe's creation. We will all miss Joe and his significant contributions he had to the chemistry community. Take care and let the USACE family know if there is anything we can do.

I have so many memories of Joseph (Joe), he was married to my sister (Sharon Solsky). Joe loved playing Badminton, this was when he lived in Buffalo,NY. I´m very competitive and so was Joe. He would hit the birdie so high in the air that our necks hurt waiting to see when it would come back to earth. We had such a good time. He was a great brother in law and I was a very sassy sister in law. We loved to all play cards together especially Pinochle. Again Joe and I were locked into being the winner.
My heart is breaking for his wife and his son´s that are grieving. Joe you now are free from the suffering you endured from Parkinson´s. We all will miss you.
