Evette, I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. Carol (Fry) Herzog forwarded her obituary to me in Green Bay. It sounds like she was quite a wonderful person. It's always so hard to let a mother go. I'm hoping to see you in June at our 50 th reunion.
All my sympathy to you and your family,
Jeanne (Knight) Brusky

We were saddened to hear of the loss of our beloved Josephine. She was very special and I have many pleasant memories of her growing up. George and Josie were very close friends of my Parents, Albert and Sadie.....mom would share many of the good times she and dad shared with the Abraham's. Back then people got together at each other's homes, going "visiting" on Saturday nights, something we do not have enough today, with everyone's busy schedules. They were proud of the catering they did for many years. I am so happy that Hap and his staff have carried it on in such a wonderful and successful manner.... Our sincere sympathy goes out to the family, especially Yvette, Hap, and Steve. Wanda and Duane Skaff

My Godmother, Shpeenty Josie! I cherish her memory. What a wonderful woman. Always, she was so charitable, kind, sweet, and totally loving. I have absolutely no recollection of her ever losing her temper or expressing any anger, whatsoever. I love her so much-- I was sure my mother loved me, to choose Josephine to be my Godmother!! They were the closest of friends. A long time ago, I visited Josie in her care facility. Her age had regressed to nearly childhood, but when she asked me who I was, I told her I was ‘Scott Haberer-- Mary Hanna's boy’-- her eyes brightened and she said, "I know Mary!! She is my best friend...” Then, she looked at me in a puzzled way, but politely, and I thought she must be wondering how Mary could have a son when she is only a child still... All the time I visited her, she was so cordial and sweet-- I believe that is the core of her essence-- often these illnesses show us what is truly inside a person-- Josie was full of love, compassion, and ultimately, she wanted everyone around her to be comfortable and loved. Even while burdened with the weight of Alzheimer's, she exhibited poise, congeniality, and a concern for other’s feelings around her. I will miss her… and yet, I will not miss her, still, because she will always be in my heart. She is another example of America’s Greatest Generation… her passing is a loss to us all, and her life is a testament to our family, our people, our faith, and our nation. I am humbled to be blessed by God to be born into this family and community. James Scott Haberer/Sioux City
