Kathleen Dougherty Obituary

Kathy D. passed away on August 15, 2025 but not until she was given extra weeks by God to spread her love, stories and laughter to all who cherished her.

Kathleen Anne Dougherty was born on October 13, 1942 to Frances and John Matthew Dougherty. Kathy always referred to her mother as her "hero." Kathy was the last (and best as she said) of the siblings, joining Patricia (Pat), Pricilla (Poe), and John (Johnny). She is preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Everett Markey; sister and brother-in-law, Poe and Dwite Pedersen; brother Johnny; and beloved nieces, Elizabeth (Markey) Goodroad, Suzanne Markey; beloved kitties: Ophelia, Daisy, and Miss Kitty Russell.

Kathy is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews (in chorological order as not to imply who was her favorite at this time as she would say): Tom Markey, Jeanne (Steve) Hightower, Julia (Steve) Houser, Tim Goodroad, Tim (Mary Jo) Markey, Laura (Charlie) Allen, Anne (Bill) Gordon, Andy (Jen) Pedersen, Michaela Jackson, Megan (Michael) Nelson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Dougherty, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews, and many, many, many special friends; and her precious kitty Zoey.

A memorial Mass and Celebration of life will be on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at St. Bernard's Church at 10:00 a.m. Luncheon to follow. Kathy has donated her body to the Anatomical Board of Nebraska, specifically bequeathing her remains to Creighton University for medical education and research. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard's Church and School.

Co-workers (retired)

Yesterday

The family does not know me, but thought I'd share with you what an impact she made on others.

Kathy worked at Children's Hospital for years. There is a group of retired staff who worked at Children's who remember her and her kindness too all she met.

We send you prayers for peace in your sorrow and give our condolences

Julie & Laura,
I'm sending my sympathy for the loss of your mother. From the words of others, it sounds like your mom was a special, loving person; a real disciple of Jesus on earth.

Kathy spent the last weeks with us here at Brookestone Meadows. She was a delight every time I saw her with her niece Jeanne. She always had a beautiful smile on her face and always waved when she passed by the Front Desk. Kathy fly high with the Angels now, you have no more suffering. Praying for her whole family at this difficult time.
