Kerry Journey Obituary

Kerry Lee Journey

September 16, 1997 - May 30, 2025

Our beloved Kerry Lee (Worley) Journey passed away on May 30, 2025, at the age of 27, after a courageous battle with complications of ulcerative colitis. She was surrounded by her husband, Cory, her parents and many friends.

Kerry was born on September 16, 1997, to Robert and RoxAnn Worley of Elkhorn, NE. There are many memories of Kerry playing and celebrating special holidays with all the children in the neighborhood. She also learned to play the violin when she was young and enjoyed playing at family gatherings and recitals. Even at a young age, Kerry had a special sense of people's emotions and had empathy and compassion for others.

Kerry was baptized and later confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn. She graduated from Elkhorn South HS in 2016. She enjoyed playing soccer and softball in her youth. Kerry had numerous friends in HS and stayed close to many of them throughout the years. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and graduated in 2020 with a degree in social work. As a member of Willard Sorority and very active on campus, Kerry made many lifelong friends while at Wesleyan. She spent a month in Rwanda, which forever changed her life toward humanity.

After college, she used her passion to help others by working for a non-profit organization, RISE, to assist people transition from prison into society. Kerry also worked for the Center for Housing and Health in Chicago to find homes for individuals living with HIV and individuals re-entry to society from prison. Kerry had the heart for her work, showing compassion and strength at the same time.

While in college, Kerry met the love of her life, Cory Journey. She immediately knew Cory was the man she wanted to marry. They were married on September 7, 2024, and Kerry stated that their wedding was "the perfect day." They called Chicago their home for three years until her passing. They both fell in love with the city and their very supportive friend group.

Kerry was preceded in death by her grandparents, Boyd and Jana Worley, Francis and Letha Fry; her uncles, Jerry Worley and Robert Fry; and foster sister, Graciela Jaimes. She is survived by her husband, Cory Journey; parents, Bob and Roxie Worley and our greatly loved Ayce; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Terry and Shala Journey; sister-in-law, Lacy Journey; and loving aunts and uncles, cousins and dear friends. Kerry left her lasting mark in this world and words cannot describe how much she will be missed.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 20, at Reichmuth in Elkhorn, Neb., from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorial service will be on Saturday, June 21, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn, at 2 p.m.

In honor of Kerry, memorial donations may be made to Center for Housing and Health, 200 W Monroe Street, Chicago, IL 60606.

Kerry was a curious, thoughtful, earnest first year student at NWU who grew to be a passionate advocate for social justice and the oppressed. She brought a sensitive spirit of collaboration to her research with Katie in Rwanda, even including a Rwandan friend in her research presentation via Zoom. She was moved to share her knowledge to help others and empower the less fortunate. I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family.
