Kim I. McKeown
February 8, 1951 - September 24, 2025
Kim I. McKeown, age 74, of Council Bluffs, IA, passed into eternal life on September 24, 2025, following complications brought on by Stage four cancer over the past 15 months. Retired with 44 years of professional service as a civil engineer, president, and board chair of HGM Associates Inc., an engineering, architecture, and land surveying firm in Council Bluffs and Omaha. Graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School (Council Bluffs), 1969, and Iowa State University (B.S. Civil Engineering), 1973.
Always an athlete, Kim enjoyed competing in golf, basketball, and football. Four-year member and captain of Iowa State's men's golf team. Three one-time men's golf champion at the former Lakeshore Country Club and two-time senior men's champion at Bent Tree Golf Club. Loved trips to Scotland and around the U.S. with his golf buddies. Member of the charter class of Leadership Council Bluffs; 1991 to 1992 class of Leadership Iowa; Leadership CB Alumni Association (first president); CB Chamber of Commerce Board; Historic General Dodge House Trustee; other community boards.
Preceded in death by parents, H. Gene and Betty L. (Jensen) McKeown; brother, Michael T. McKeown; niece, Kaitlin E. McKeown; parents-in-law, Raymond M. and Betty Anne (McMillan) Willemssen; and 12 beloved cats.
Survived by his wife of 51 years, Anne (Willemssen) McKeown, a sportswriter who met Kim while conducting a newspaper interview during college; brother, Kevin McKeown and his wife, Deborah, of Las Cruces, NM; sister-in-law, Rosemary McKeown of Queen Creek, AZ, and Omaha; brother-in-law, Mac R. Willemssen and his wife, Judith, of Chaska, MN; cats, Kachina and Zuni. Also survived by cherished nieces: Kelly (Ryan) Sonnichsen, Kerry (Steven) Hoiberg, Shelly (Subby) Anzalone, Amanda (Alexandre) Ely, Jessica Willemssen; and nephew, Scott Hopkins; as well as 13 great-nieces and nephews and one great-grandniece.
No public service planned. Perhaps a golf event in 2026. INTERMENT of ashes will be in Walnut Hill Columbarium in Council Bluffs in October.
