Marcella Chaney Obituary

Chaney, Marcella "Marcy" (Gruber)
Age 87

Marcella "Marcy" (Gruber) Chaney, of Omaha was called home on April 22, 2014 at her home in Omaha. Marcy was born on July 11, 1926 in Union, NE; the daughter of Simon and Helen (Bueler) Gruber. She attended school in Union through the 10th grade and the last two years attended the Nebraska City High School where she graduated in 1943. She was united in marriage to Earl Chaney on November 9, 1947 in Logan, IA and they had one son Ralph. Earl preceded her in death in 1949. She loved and honored her Heavenly Father and was a member of the Marshall Drive Baptist Church in Omaha, NE. She was saved, baptized and joined the First Baptist Church in Nebraska City in June of 1941 and was an active member until moving to Omaha in 1959. In her younger years, Marcy was very active in sports. She also drove in the stock car races in Auburn and at the Grand View Theater Track south of Omaha. Marcy worked in the office at the former Morton House Kitchens in Nebraska City for 17 years. She began driving a semi in 1961 and was one of the first female truckers in the United States. She was an avid and loyal Nebraska Football/ Sports Fan. She is survived by a brother Rex Gruber of Omaha; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and church 'family' members. She was preceded in death by parents, Simon and Helen (Bueler) Gruber; son Ralph E. Chaney; sisters: Lucy Douglas and Elaine Teten; brother Darrell Gruber; and Penny (Shih-Tzu poodle).
FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday morning at 10am at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. Burial will be in the Wyuka Cemetery at Nebraska City. (Due to Hwy 75 being closed, please take either Hwy 50 or I 29). Marcy's family asks that those who attend the service, wear Husker gear in her memory. Memorials may be given to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. GUDE MORTUARY
