Marie is survived by her husband, Col. Kirk Bruno; parents, Louis and Angela Szabo; brothers, Robert and Thomas Szabo; sister-in-laws, Patty and Bridget, daughters, Courtney Bruno and Danielle Hassel; son–in-law, Daniel Hassel, granddaughter, Kaylee Marie Weiland; and thirteen nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her sister, Theresa Moy.
MEMORIAL SERVICE 10am, Saturday, September 21st, at Calvary Christian Church, 10100 Cedar Island Rd., Bellevue, NE. A second Memorial Service will be held in remembrance of Marie, for her friends and family in New Jersey, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life under http://main.ascevents.org/goto/TeamMarie. JOHN A. GENTLEMAN MORTUARIES

I am so glad I got to know Marie as an adult and I have such fond memories of Marie and the Szabo kids when they came to see us when I was a child. I did not have the good fortune to meet Marie but I was able to get to know her wonderful daughter, Dani. I can only imagine the amazing, strong, caring person Marie must have been to raise such wonderful and caring daughter! Dani - your entire family is in my thoughts and prayers each day. Marie was a terrific neighbor and friend in Makalapa. There was something about Marie that I connected with and clearly many people felt the same way.

A shining light has left us way too soon. Marie was loved by so many and her passing leaves us with such sadness. Her valiant fight to live has been awe inspiring. We met Kirk and Marie at STRATCOM. What a great couple devoted to each other; devoted to their daughters; and devoted to National service. Cheryl and I have enduring memories of New Year's with the McGillis', Brunos, and Poores playing poker...drinking scotch, and smoking cigars. We also remember celebrating the Marine Birthday in 2010 and sharing a table with the Bruno clan. Marie was such a wonderful, warm person....shw will be missed.
