Mark Vana Obituary

Mark Stephen Vana

November 28, 1956 - May 30, 2025

With sadness and hilarious memories, family and friends mourn the loss of Mark Stephen Vana, 68, who passed away in Tarzana, Ca., surrounded by loved ones. Mark left unexpectedly, but not before making his mark (pun intended).

Air Force veteran, travel agent, entrepreneur, actor, world traveler, creative writer and storyteller with a boundless imagination, and California resident since 1976, Mark was a devoted Huskers fan. His wit and wisdom could make you weep or howl in laughter and his generosity was unparalleled.

Mark was preceded in death by parents, Charles J. and Zenobia "Nancy" Vana; survived by life partner, Kevin Larson; siblings, Cynthia Vana and Sam Lai, Paul Vana, Thomas and Susan Vana, David and Noreen Vana, Therese Vana and Reidar Brekke, Steven J. Vana, Lisamarie Vana; and eight beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, pass on a kindness, cheer for Nebraska, or share a "Mark" story with us.

Friends and family welcome to a CELEBRATION OF LIFE EVENT, JULY 11, 4 to 7 p.m., hosted by family at HOME OF DAVID AND NOREEN VANA, 17902 PINE ST. A California event is also being planned.

Uncle Mark,

I cannot remember meeting you ever, but I know you were an incredible man. I love picturing your life! Feels fun to have Hollywood blood. Ash in particular talks about you, so I know you really cared about family. My deepest condolences to folks surviving your absence in the most acute ways <3.

Love,
Tucker

Hey Big brother, I miss you terribly. Always looked forward to football season so we could "watch" the Nebraska games together from 3 time zones away! Your sense of humor was terrific, and oh boy, that laugh, that laugh makes me smile! You were a good and generous man. I learned you sent Uncle Jack an 85th birthday present, sent baby gifts to friends who had newborns, among so many other thoughtful gestures. Your story telling was legendary, will miss those too. Give love to dad and mom, and poncobaby.com too!
Love you Mark.

I did not know Mark, but this announcement was one of the best I´ve ever read. He sounds like an INCREDIBLE human being. We need more Marks in the world. I´m certain he will be missed.
