Wagner family: Mark has been my friend for more than 40 years. We first met when I was hired as the Omaha Municipal Court Administrator in 1981 and he was working for the State Court Administrator in Lincoln. When I left that position to be the District Court Administrator for the 5th Judicial District in Iowa in 1984 , Mark took over my position and was instrumental in successfully navigating many challenging and complex organizational, funding and facility-related issues that arose after I left.

His friendship extended way past his leaving the field of court administration and my also moving on to other careers.

Through it all, we shared so many different things revolving around careers, family, fun, adventures and politics.

He came to West Des Moines to help celebrate my wedding and a year later, to be part of the surprise 40th birthday party that my wife put together.

And trips to visit family in Iowa always included a day or two in Omaha as my career path evolved in different states always included a dinner out with your dad when passing through.

You may not remember but I've known each of your from when you were quite young. I know how much he cared for you individually as independent off-spring and as the Wagner collective that expanded over time with the birth of his grandchildren.

I will miss his wit, his "take" on things that weren't always the same as mine, his approach to life and so many other things that we shared.

That twinkle in his eye when telling me things that he'd done, that we did together and remembered and things we yet needed to do together are among the many memories I have of your dad.

I know I can't begin to express how his departure must have impacted each of you but know that he was a true friend, the "little brother" that in many ways is and was closer to me than my own younger brother and someone who made an impact on so many in and out of his family during his career and his life.

My condolences and best wishes to each of you. He'll be missed but certainly not forgotten.
