My heartfelt condolences to the Family of Matt. I went to NW also and was in a drama class with him. He had an amazingly incredible gift of acting. One of a few people who was able to speak with almost any accent to assist him in portraying whatever character that he was "clothed" with while on stage. I also, like others, have seen him in a few productions in Omaha - my favorite of course was seeing him portray Scrooge, he "wore" him well.
You all have such amazing stories and memories of Matt that he will never be truly gone - don't stop talking about him and sharing with one another all of the stories and memories - these can never be taken from you. I pray that God will comfort all of you because He is close to the brokenhearted, and His touch is always filled with grace, mercy and compassion. He is the balm of Gilead - let Jesus bind up every wound and sorrow.

I am so sorry to hear of Matt's passing. He was my very first acting teacher at the Emmy Gifford and I was SO incredibly lucky to do several shows with him there as well. All of my memories of him are fond and will be cherished forever. He truly inspired me. And boy did he make me laugh. Thank you, Matt!!!!

Heartfelt Condolences to Matt's Family... I only knew Matt because of a summer musical for the Omaha Public Schools...My Fair Lady and he was (of course) Henry Higgins. I was the prop-master. We had such great times that summer. Thinking of Matt always brings a smile to my face.

Dear Shirley,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I was saddened to hear of his passing. I didn't know Matt but remember always hearing about his "acting bug" when you and I worked a K-mart. I am glad he was able to follow his life's passion with your help and support. I was especially glad when I got to see him in a performance at the playhouse. He was marvelous. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family in your time of sorrow. May you find comfort in your faith, friends, family and your memories.

I didn't know Matt personally, but I greatly admired his acting skill. He was the best local actor I ever saw, and his fun and caring personality came through every time. I am so sorry he is gone. I know he will be sorely missed by many, not the least of which is me. All my prayers.

I knew Matt in High School--very fun to be around. Also witnessed his acting skills up close since I worked on the stage crew. He took acting seriously even then. You could tell he would be doing it on a bigger scale after graduation. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

To Matt's family,
I had the privilege of meeting Matt when my son was a child actor at the old Emmy Gifford and was in a show with Matt. I saw more of Matt when he was in the Caravan and also performing in Playhouse shows. I was fortunate enough to stage manage several shows that Matt was performing in. My entire family became friends with Matt. We often heard him saying "those damn Priesmans" in a way that only Matt could deliver. I'm sure he's in heaven now commenting on all the fuss people are making.

Roger, Shirley, Patti, and Family,
I never had much opportunity to know Matt as he grew up, but I did his parents. Matt grew up in a family from which he inherited his values towards family and the people around him. I know that now he is in an even better place. Roger, Shirley, Patti, his loss will be painful, but with God's help will heal. Barbara and I extend to you our deepest sympathy.

Matt made an impact on me 25 years ago when we did a show together at the old Emmy Gifford Children's Theatre. I was just a kid back then and I admired and respected his gifts. He was hilarious and so much fun to be around. My sincere condolences to his family in this time of sadness.

To Matt's family,
I was so very sorry to learn of Matt's passing - my thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. I had the great good fortune to see Matt an stage a number of times; I have also worked backstage at the Omaha Community Playhouse for a number of shows that he was in; and, I was blessed to have stage managed 3 shows with him in the cast: 'Our Country's Good', 'The Underpants', and ;Give 'Em Hell, Harry' In fact the main reason that I agreed to stage manage 'Harry' was that I would once again be able to work with this wonderful man and brilliant actor. Matty was easy to work with, unfailingly cheerful and had an irreverent sense of humor. In addition, he was quirte simply one of the best actors I have ever been privileged to work with.
We can take solace that he is no longer in pain, and his suffereng has ended. But, Oh, Matty.... we will miss you!

It's so very sad to hear that Matt is gone! We did a few plays together in high school and at UNO. He made what could have been deadly dull rehearsals fun and fruitful. He treated everyone from actors to stagehands with kindness and dignity. It was so comfortable to be onstage with him - it made me a better actor.
In later years when I would come to see him work, I just had to go backstage and tell him what a great job he'd done. It was always fun to catch up with him. I will miss that!

To Matt's family-
Thank you for sharing with the world the wonderful gift that was Matt. I began acting with him as a child at the Junior Theatre and eventually had the pleasure of working with him through the Caravan for five years. Matt was one of the reasons I have loved theatre my whole life - his rigor at his craft and dedication to the theatre is an example for us all - not to mention his irreverence. He will be sorely missed.
Deepest condolences - Kristin Watkins

Dear Shirley, Roger and Pattie,
It was a great privilege for me to create theater with Matt for over twenty years at the Omaha Playhouse and the Nebraska Theatre Caravan. He is one of the finest actors I have ever known as well as being an amazingly funny, irreverent, and great hearted human being. I know how much his family meant to him - my heart is with all of you at this time. Matt is well known in many parts of the United States for his stellar performance as Ebenezer Scrooge in the 21 years he toured with the Nebraska Theatre Caravan's production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Matthew was filled with the same benevolent heart and the great yuletide spirit that first inspired Charles Dickens to write such a character. We will miss our Matty, our dear Mr. Scrooge and all the other amazing people he created on our stages.
With love and sorrow,
Susie Baer Collins
