Echols, Minister Maude Eva

Minister Maude Eva Echols, formerly of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Omaha, Nebraska passed away on May 28, 2024. She was born in Beirne, Arkansas on May 6, 1927, to the union of William and Irene Roberts Bell. Maude was one of the 16 children born into the Bell family. She attended and graduated from Bell's High School, Gurdon, Arkansas as valedictorian of her class.
Maude married John E. Echols in 1964 and relocated to Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Maude and John were married for 24 years until his death in 1988. Maude was a devout member of St. John Baptist Church where she sang in the women's choir. Maude was called to preach and enrolled in American Baptist College located in Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated cum laude in 1991 from American Baptist College and was ordained at Williams Chapel Missionary Baptist Church on December 15, 1991. She was the first female to become a licensed and ordained minister in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee. Maude moved back to Omaha, Nebraska in 1999 where she united with King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church and served as the Associate Pastor. In 2001 she was awarded the Devotion to Family Commitment Award at the 20th Annual Family Service Salute to Families event. Due to health concerns, she moved to Antioch, Tennessee to live with her daughter and remained until her death.
Maude was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John; her son Bobby Neal; her sisters Lizzie Hunter, Mamie McFarland, Willie Mae Jackson, Mary Snowden, Katie Golden, Gussie M. Kelleybrew, and Christine Hatley; her brothers Oscar Bell, John Bell, Wallace Bell, Bernie Bell, J.C. Bell, Henry Bell, Sr., William Bell, and James Bell.
Maude is survived by her daughters, Karen Y. Jones (Jacksonville, FL) and Dr. Joyce E. Neal (Antioch, TN). Her granddaughters, LeQuetta (Mario) Nieta (Indianapolis, IN); Tamara C. Scott (Antioch, TN), Michelle D. Scott (Jacksonville, FL), and grandson Clay (Jessica) Jones (Jacksonville, FL); her great-grandchildren Erika Suttles, Christopher McQueen, Ambria Hill (Antioch, TN), Dominic (Rebekah) Jones, Ashanta Jones, Josiah Jones, and Kamiya Jones (Jacksonville, FL), and Savasia Fletcher (Long Beach, CA); her great-great-grandchildren Ian Brown (Nashville, TN), Colin Suttles, Ephraim McGee, Nasir Suttles (Antioch, TN), and Skylar Wilson (Long Beach, CA); Kezden Jones, Kane Jones, (Auburn, ME) and Milo Jones, Armand Jones (Jacksonville, FL).
A GRAVESIDE SERVICE was held on June 7, 2024 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Clarksville, TN. Final arrangements are entrusted to Premier Funeral and Cremation Services, Nashville, TN.
