It's an odd thing that you can miss a friend whom you have never met, never spoken with and never even seen. To this day I have no idea what Mike looked like. What I do know is that he was one of my Internet buddies. We "talked" about all sorts of things, and I will miss him.

I never met Mike but knew him through Solosez and one other email list. Mike was a font of knowledge, tempered, but never defeated, by a debilitating illness, and topped with a conservative sense of humor that I share. His emailed comments about his struggle with his disease were an inspiration. I hope that if I ever face a challenge even half as daunting that I can have the courage and elan that he displayed. God Speed.

I was one of many attorneys around the country that had the pleasure of knowing Mike only through e-mails and his postings on Solosez and other internet forums and e-mail groups.
I first corresponded with Mike in 1997, when I was in the early planning stages of opening my own law office. Since then, he was a consistent source of practical and legal advice and, more importantly, humor and wit.
I will miss him.

I first met Mike around 1994 through e-mail, but from that time on, I could count that he would always have a supply of great right-of-center jokes, forwards and news. Whatever he would send was always original – and always good. He was blessed with extraordinary common sense and uncommon wit.
In a message he sent to a group of friends on a listserve in early September, he wrote “But so far I continue to try to ‘keep on keeping on.’”
We’ll all keep on remembering Mike --- and his level-headed friendship and guidance.

Many of us got to know Mike virtually through Solosez, the ABA blog for sole legal practitioners. As one Sezzer recently said, we will miss his fabulous wit, amazing honesty and common sense. My sincere sympathies to his family, colleagues and friends.

Mike was a friend and mentor to me, going back to the early days of computer bulletin boards and personal use of the Internet in the early 90's. I will miss his generous nature and expert advice.

Mike came down the two doorways between their apartment and ours in Erdorf, West Germany, to greet us the very first night we arrived from the States following our wedding in the early days of Feb. 1969. I'll never forget, as it was right when George was struggling to carry me across the threshold, both of us laughing our heads off. Mike and Linda, newlyweds themselves, at once sowed the seeds of a bond of friendship which endures today. We grieve, we cry, and we laugh outloud at our many cherished memories of early days in our youthful marriages and since then. If only everyone is so fortunate as to have such a lifelong friendship as we have had with Mike, and continue with Linda. Bless you all. Mary Anne and George Hannibal

It is said that children are one’s legacy. This being the case, Mike Riddle influenced/guided his sons (Mark, Jack, and Steve) to be men, husbands, fathers, and scholars. Condolences from the Robinson family.
