Paul was a kind and gentle man. Our family was fortunate to know Paul through Covenant and our neighborhood. During the summers he was in Maine, we often "dog sat" his little beagle Demi, which was the beginning of our love affair with rescued beagles. May our fond memories of Paul comfort you all.

On behalf of Paul's friends at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Springfield, I want you to know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. We learned of Paul's passing yesterday and prayed for all of you in worship. May your memories and your faith comfort and sustain you as you move through this time. Dear Mary, Becky, Merry, Ted and Family: Although were in different departments at Wittenberg, Paul and I were bonded by similar tastes and interests. He always greeted me gently and warmly, and I tried to encourage him in difficult times. I am grateful to have known this thoughtful man, and Marge--and Becky even slightly, and I was deeply glad to know of Paul's centeredness in you, Mary.
Blessing as you all move forward from his life with you.

To Mary, Jim and family,
I never got a chance to personally meet Paul but I know he was loved and respected by his family and that he will be missed. You and your family will be in my thoughts.

Dear Mary, Becky, Merry, Ted and Family: As one of my most delightful, profound and cherished friends in the Wittenberg English Dept. before and during our retirement, Paul has been much on my mind since I learned of his death yesterday. I want to offer my condolences to you family members who no doubt are grieving much more than I, even though I gathered from Paul's brief email a couple of months ago that physically he was declining rapidly and that life was fast becoming more a burden than a joy.
Mary, although it was my privilege to meet you only briefly, I learned from Paul over the years how much you enriched his life. Thank you both for enriching mine in the process with the wonderful story of your shared love and life together.
