Rhonda Sharp Obituary

CHANGE IN VISITATION DAY
Sharp, Rhonda S. (Joekel)
Sep 25, 1965 - May 15, 2014

Rhonda Joekel Sharp was tragically taken by her Lord on May 15, joining her beloved son Evan, in Heaven. Daughter of Dr. Ronald and Marjorie Joekel of Lincoln, NE, Rhonda was a graduate of Lincoln East High School and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. After a short Elementary Teaching career in Lincoln, she became a stay at home mom for her 3 sons. When her youngest son, Evan became ill with terminal brain cancer in 2010, she devoted herself to his care, including spending the summer of 2010 in Colorado for specialized treatment for Evan. After Evan's passing in 2011, Rhonda devoted countless hours fundraising for various Pediatric Cancer causes, including the Jack Hoffman Foundation. Rhonda lived for her boys. She loved seeing them succeed in school activities, sports, and was a surrogate mom to most of their friends. She was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt, and loved family and friends and social outings with them. Rhonda loved the Rocky Mountains, hiking, Estes Park, Cheley Camps, and traveling with her fiancé Jeff, whom she loved unconditionally. Rhonda was preceded in death by her son Evan. She leaves behind her beloved sons, Spencer and Tyler Sharp; fiancé Jeff Howorth; parents, Ron and Marj Joekel; brothers, Steven (Pam), and Corey (Nancy); nephews, David (Tiffany), Mark, William (Liz) and Benjamin; nieces, Erin (Jeremy) Stoll and Stephanie (Scott) Wenz; and 5 great-nieces.
MEMORIAL SERVICE on Tuesday at 12Noon at Christ Community Church, 404 S. 108th Ave. MEMORIAL VISITATION is on TUESDAY 10am-12Noon at Christ Community Church. Private Family Interment of Rhonda's urn in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Rhonda Sharp Memorial Fund. JOHN A. GENTLEMAN MORTUARIES

You've been on my heart as the song, Unforgettable by Natalie Cole, keeps playing in my head. I still can't hear 10,000 Words without tearing up knowing you are now praising Him face to face while holding onto Evan's hand. Love & miss you. Save me a seat!!! Love, Wendy

I am so very sorry for your loss. I met Rhonda through CAbi and I enjoyed her whenever we would meet up at Scoop or at CAbi events and most recently at the Team Jack event. I admired her courage her faith, and her smile even in the face of adversity. What a joyous reunion it must be for her to be with Evan now. But oh how sad I am that you all will miss her so much. She made a difference in this world and provided courage to other families with children with pediatric brain cancer. I am so grateful to have met her and I will keep her and you all in my prayers.

Tyler and Spencer, we knew your mom many years ago when she lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was such a joyful soul even all those years ago. Rhonda and I both shared an interest in education as well as children's literature. Your mom even worked at this great little shop called Pooh's Corner which was an entire store filled with children's books. I have many fond memories of the times we spent together and have enjoyed staying in touch with your mom through Facebook. From her posts it was always very clear how much she adored her sons and how proud she was of each of you. I can't even begin to imagine the grief you must now face but I hope that you will always remember how much she cherished you. I have no doubt that you will always carry her with you and that she will continue to watch over you, love you and be proud of the young men that you are. Please know that you and Jeff are in our thoughts and prayers.

Spencer, Tyler, Jeff, Mr. and Mrs. Joekel and all of Rhonda's family - I'm so sorry. Rhonda loved all of us so well and I know will leave a huge hole in the lives of so many. She was a wonderful, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was such a special friend to me over the years...from our summers as Cheley campers and counselors together, to our visits during college, being bridesmaids in each others' weddings, and then our more recent visits in Estes Park as our kids became friends...the memories are many. I am so sad that God has called her home at what seems like such a young age, but He used her in such mighty ways while she was here. I know many were encouraged as she stood firm in the goodness of our God, and trusted His ways, even when they seemed so difficult to understand. Her faith inspired me and I pray it will continue to shine in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
much love,

Teresa Elliott

The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name, In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you, as you did not go alone, For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

-Author Unknown

May the love of family and friends carry you through your sorrow!
