Rich & my Dad at the 2012 Liberation Day event.

May 17, 2013
The WWII Honor Flights organized by Bill/Evonne Williams was the venue that introduced me to Rich Lang in 2008. Since he landed in Guam on July 1944 & me originally from Guam, a friendship developed. I enjoyed my visits with him as I learned of his pre-WWII days in South O, his USMC days especially during the Liberation of Guam, & his firefighter career. But his Catholic Faith & his family were his proudest "braggings." I will miss taking him to our annual Liberation Day event,to the VFW for monthly roast beef dinners or other special events. Si Yu'us Ma'ase (Thank you in Chamorro)Rich for your friendship, your Service,& as America's greatest generation! Say hi to Babe Kreifel & don't cause too much havoc with him in heaven.

I am so sorry for your loss. Rich was such a great guy. A good friend of my dad Barney McKearney. They had many good times at the gas station my dad managed on 16th and Dorcas, and also at the Dorcas bar just across the street.
Was planning on attending the rosary Thursday evening, but our daugher had her baby that day at 4 in the afternoon in Norfolk, so I didn't have much time to get there. Was looking forward to visiting with your family and extended family.
I wrote a letter to your dad just a few years ago, and he replied and gave me an update on himself and his family. It was great to hear from him.
He also sent me the video of my dad working at the gas station. That is a special treasure for us.

I must speak for my father Carl Schrat first on this guest book for Rich Lang. He went to St.Joseph's school with Rich and he pointed out tonight he has known Rich Lang for 80 years.
These are two World War II vets who were life-long friends. Rich had a much much harder time in the Great War than my father, but both would tell you that they were just doing their jobs.
They don't make men like Rich Lang anymore.
I befriended Rich on football Saturdays at the DAV and I immediately became very fond of my Dad's old school mate and friend. Rich and I were about the only two guys who also rooted for Notre Dame. I would have loved to have been a ball player coached by him. I hope my young son can find an influence like Rich Lang during his childhood. He does have Carl Schrat as a Grandfather, so that's a plus and through that grandfather-grandson relationship, Rich is still present.
I hope the Lang family can find comfort knowing their Dad was such a revered person. He will be never forgotten and he will be sorely missed.
You are now in God's hands Rich Lang. He loves you and so do we.

Rick, Laurie, Bill, Peggy & Mary Jo... I am so sorry for the loss of your father. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am sure you all know how many hearts he touched. He was a great coach, father, and mentor. I cannot begin to count the number of peoples lives that he touched. He will truly be missed. He taught many young children (in sports) the true meaning of working hard to achieve great things. He will be missed.

To Lang Family,
Your Father touched so many of our lives, whether through coaching sports, be a part of St. Pat's (I had him as a PE teacher), his years in the Fire dept., or his Military service. Rich was a very special man and will truly be missed. Peggy Merrill said it best, he was South Omaha, you can't think of one without the other. My prayers are with each one of you. God bless.

Rich was always a fierce competetor and an excellent mentor. When I was batboy for St Pats, he always took the time to play a little catch and even let me warm him up between innings. Thanks for your friendship and your service to our country. Billy Macdonald (Cdr. USN ret)

I knew Rich as a ballplayer at St Pats, then as a firefighter on the Omaha Fire Dept. He was always a compeieter. I made a dispariging remark about the Marine Corp once, and he chased me so I had to slide the pole at station 1. Will be ssdly missed

Uncle Rich....what a great man. I'll never forget all of his war stories and strong opinions ;) At least Rich and Grandpa Dennis are up in heaven looking down on all of us...and probably complaining about anything and everything :) I wish I could be there to see you all, but I will be there in spirit. Stay strong family. Sending my love your way! Rest in peace Uncle Rich.

To the Lang Family & friends,
Bill & Deb,
Truly an icon from my growing up years on Vinton Street in South Omaha.
Mr. Lang stood tall even from his wheel chair. Always with a smile, a hand shake. Truly a man that stood for the American dream & freedom.
My thoughts & prayers go out to the family & friends of Rich Lang.
"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal"
With many memories Rich's life has touch many & will be truly missed but never forgotten.
With deepest heartfelt thoughts may God bless you all until you meet up again.
