Rick North Obituary

North, Rick

April 24, 1950 - October 3, 2023

Rick North, age 73, passed away on October 03, 2023, in Omaha, Nebraska. Rick was born in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Lorne and Viola North. He grew up on the family farm in Vail, Iowa and graduated from AR-WE-VA High School in 1968. Rick graduated from Wayne State University where he was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Here he made life-long best friends and met the love of his life, Pam. After graduation, he spent time in Oregon and California managing North's Chuckwagon chain of restaurants, then returned to Denison, Iowa to sell real estate with his father for a time before finally settling in Omaha, Nebraska.

Rick worked for Mutual of Omaha for several years before moving into real estate. He worked for Maenner Realty and then found his passion for Commercial Land Development at the Dial Companies where he spent more than 30 years.

Rick married Sheila Rinn and had two children, Lyndsey and Corey. He was later remarried to his college sweetheart, Pamela (McCright) Lathrop and her children Emily, Scott, and Sarah.

Rick loved golf and spent countless hours on the course both in Omaha and during the winters in Arizona. Above all, Rick fiercely loved his family and friends, and enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by them. He was an incredible father, brother, uncle, friend, and most importantly he was the best grandfather.

He will be remembered for his gregarious nature, witty sense of humor, generous spirit and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. He was a world-class negotiator, stubborn as a mule and could fix just about anything.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney 'Lorne' North and Viola (Osterlund) North and his brother, Robert North.

Rick is survived by his wife Pam Lathrop-North, sister Janice (Gene) Lea, daughter Lyndsey (Kevin) Zubarik; son Corey North; step-daughters Emily (David) O'Neill and Sarah (James) Manion; Step-son Scott (Jessica) Lathrop and was Papa to eight beloved grandchildren: Alexander Zubarik, Madeline Zubarik, Connor O'Neill, Benjamin O'Neill, Samantha Lathrop, Ella Lathrop, Trip Manion and Calvin Manion; along with many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at Roeder Mortuary at 2727 N 108th Street in Omaha on Friday, October 13. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., memorial service to start at 11 a.m. with a reception immediately to follow at Shadow Ridge Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
