Ronald Michka Obituary

MICHKA-Ronald George, 64, passed away peacefully with the loving comfort of his family at the Hospice of East Texas, Tyler, at 12:30 p.m., February 10, 2007. Born in Omaha, NE, Ron was the eldest son of George Washington Michka and Viola Krepel Michka. He graduated from Benson HS and received a football scholarship to the University of Nebraska. An outstanding athlete, Ron lettered in baseball and football. The highlight of his Cornhusker career was the 1963 Big 8 Conference Championship and the 1964 Orange Bowl victory. He graduated with a degree in Pharmacy and was employed by Eli Lilly for 25 years in Des Moines, IA. Ron and his wife Priscilla moved from Iowa to Hideaway in 2001. He had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. Ron and Priscilla loved to travel and enjoyed sharing many adventures. Ron was blessed with a lifetime of close friends. Ron is survived by Priscilla, his wife of 25 years, his brother Gary Michka (Barb) of Fernley, NV; sons, Ron Michka (Angela) of Kansas City, MO, and Brad Harris (Susan) of West Des Moines, IA; daughters, Jill Tobin (Sean) of Iowa City, IA, Stephanie Clarke (Mike) of Flower Mound TX, Jennifer Arnold of Blakesburg, IA; six grandchildren Matthew, Daniel, Joseph, Emily, Johnathan, Olivia; nephew Richard Michka, niece Ann Schriner, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13th at Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home, Lindale, TX. Funeral services will be at the First United Methodist Church of Lindale on February 14th at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service to be held in Des Moines, IA will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701, or the American Cancer Society.
