Sally Towne Obituary

Sally A. Towne

July 15, 1942 - March 21, 2025

Sally Ann (Papoi) Towne passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, with family in North Port, FL. Sally was born July 15, 1942, in South Bend, IN, to Michael and Isabelle (Sally) Papoi. She attended St. Joseph elementary school and graduated from St. Joseph high school in South Bend, IN. In her formative years she assisted with the caring of her younger sister, Kathy, and driving her older brother, Harold's (Mickey) sport cars. In July of 1963, she met her future beau, Richard Towne; the couple wed on September 4, 1965.

Sally is survived by her devoted husband, Richard; and their four beloved daughters, Michelle (Michael) Everts, Danelle (Robert) Manderfeld, Kelley Towne, all of Omaha, and Tonja (Jeffrey) Barwick of Orlando. She also has nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

As a military spouse, Sally traveled the country and the world for over 26 years, making homes for her and her growing family in Denver, CO, Okinawa, Japan, Great Falls, MT, Fort Walton Beach, FL, Seoul, South Korea, Honolulu, Hawaii, Plattsburg, NY, and finally Omaha. In December 2020, Sally and Richard started their retired life in their new, sunny home of North Port, FL.

Sally lived a full life and spent much of it learning and socializing. She enjoyed cooking (Asian cuisine being of her favorites), playing Mahjong, creating a beautiful and unique jewelry collection, finding oriental furniture, playing slot machines, raising Persian cats, and loving Shih Tzu dogs. She was a walking model for Avon products and jewelry, even adoring her home with Avon holiday decorations. She was an exemplar of Avon fashions and that earned her the Presidents Club membership annually. Sally was often found playing the slot machines at the local casinos and watching dogs/horses run the track. Sally loved to travel, with her favorite trips being back home to South Bend to watch Notre Dame football. She was easy to spot in any town she lived, driving her convertible sports cars. Sally also found fun in life by attending social events, volunteering, wine sipping, shopping, and sunbathing at the Florida beaches or on the pool deck of her homes.

Plans for a private burial at the National Cemetery and a celebration of life are being made for mid-July in Omaha.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to organization, Mosaic Omaha.

Sally was a loving, giving friend. Her family was the center of her life and she devoted herself to Rich and their four girls. As an animal lover, she always had a dog in her lap and often an assorted menagerie at home. I played Mah Jongg with her in Nebraska and have great memories of times socializing in Florida. I will miss her smiling face and genuine friendship. Condolences to Rich and the girls and their families
