Steven Voris Obituary

Born on May 9, 1950, Steven C. Voris was the eldest child of Charles Curtis and Betty Joan (Grubtill) Voris. From a young age, he found joy in the outdoors, developing his skills through the Boy Scouts and carrying that adventurous spirit throughout his life.

A proud graduate of Omaha Central High School in 1968, Steven served with honor in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the Cutter Buttonwood in Honolulu and along the Mississippi River in St. Louis. After his service ended in 1972, he attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he met Nancy Joanne Gilmore. They married on June 9, 1977, sharing a loving partnership for fifty years while living in Dundee and later Papillion.

Steven worked as a mechanic and carpenter before beginning a 30-year career with the United States Postal Service. He started as a mail carrier and retired as an MPE Mechanic at the Downtown Omaha Station.

In 1993, Steven embraced his most treasured role-father to Cody Curtis Voris. Their bond grew through shared adventures in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and historical reenactments. He proudly coached Cody's trap shooting team for ten years. In January 2025, Steven beamed with pride at Cody's wedding to Andrea Besch.

Known affectionately as Uncle Steve to a large extended family, he created lasting memories through camping trips, meals, and his signature humor. An avid traveler and talented photographer, he captured nature's beauty and shared it generously with loved ones.

Steve passed away on August 11, 2025, on the road home from visiting Cody and Andrea in California.

Steven is survived by his wife Nancy; son and daughter-in-law, Cody and Andrea Voris; sister Diane (Thomas) Dunham; brother John (Cynthia) Voris; sisters-in-law Jane Morrison and Phyllis Gilmore; brother- and sister-in-law James M. (Karen) Gilmore; 66 nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Road, Papillion, NE. Food and fellowship from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Papillion Gun Club.

No flowers please. If you wish to honor Steve, please consider becoming an organ donor or making memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or ZOR Shriners Hospital, Lady Linda's Project for Shriners Hospital Burn Hospital.
