Anita L. Krehel

Anita Luisa Hicks Krehel of Hamilton, who died August 13, 2023, is survived by 5 daughters, Dr. Carol Krehel, Donna Rouse, Lois Gentry, Laura Krehel and Janet Curlee (husband Scott); 8 grandsons, 3 granddaughters and her sister, Flo Williams of Guelph, Ontario Canada.She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Raymond; her father, Dr. Everett Hicks and mother, Florence Hicks of Brantford, Ontario; a sister, Sister Mary Hicks of St. Paul, MN; a half-sister, Bunella (Pansy) Kensit of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.Anita was born in Brantford, Ontario, Canada on March 18, 1931, the youngest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Everett Hicks. She grew up in Brantford and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1952 with a B.P.H.E. degree and from Springfield College in 1954 with an M.S. degree. She participated in and did choreography for both modern dance and synchronized swimming while in college.Anita became the Dean of women and Director of Athletics at Nasson College in Springvale, Maine where she met her husband Ray, who was also an administrator. They were married on January 26, 1957. They moved to Hamilton, NY in 1960 where they resided for 42 years.Anita was on the Board of Chenango Nursery School where she was Treasurer, a member of the Gifted Committee for Hamilton Central School, on the Board of BOCES and on the Board of the Colgate Hamilton Figure Skating Club for 26 years, serving as Treasurer. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, participating in sports and was an avid sports fan.
