Donald Misch Obituary

Donald Paul Misch, 87, of Hubbardsville, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, with his family by his side. He was born on June 30, 1936, at his grandparents home in Hubbardsville, to Jacob and Eloise (Brainard) Misch. He received his education in Hubbardsville and Hamilton Schools, where he graduated at the age of 14. Don graduated from the NY State School Of Agriculture in Morrisville, as his friends were graduating high school. On August 10, 1957, Don was united in marriage to Valenta A. Austin, at St. Mary's Church, Hamilton.Don began his career farming with his father, together they owned and operated Jacob Misch & Son Farm Machinery Sales and Service. He later worked at Clay Equipment and Thompson & Johnson in East Syracuse as a salesman. Don also worked for the Madison County Landfill and the Town of Hamilton Highway Department, until his retirement. He served as Sexton at the Graham Cemetery in Hubbardsville for over 40 years, he retired from that position in 2023. A former Hamilton Town Justice and member of the Town of Hamilton Planning Board. For many years he was an active member of the Hubbardsville Fire Department where he had served as chief, president and fire commissioner. He is also recognized as a past president of the Madison County Fireman's Association. He was a member of the East Hamilton Methodist Church, where he served as a Lay Preacher.Don is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Val, their children; Lori (Russ) Whitney of Lebanon, NY., LuAnn (Leo) Bonsey of Elliot, ME., Barnaby (Renee) Misch of Poolville, NY. His beloved grandchildren; Jennifer (Dan) Keefe, of Hubbardsville, NY., Angela Rose of Hamilton, NY., Rachael (Matt) Kusch, of Gilbert, AZ., Amanda (John) Coger, of Hamilton, NY., Gordon Goodrum, of TX., Michelle (Dan) Schrader, of Romulus, NY., Jacob Misch of Asheville, NC., Daniel Misch of Poolville, NY., and great-grandchildren; Hannah, Henry, Hudson, Logan, James, Ian, Porter, Louis, Estellese, Garrison, Levi, Sawyer, Ben and Hannah.He is also survived by many cousins.He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Carol Alton.Don could always be found working in his shop, he stayed busy fixing tractors and working on projects. He was a peaceful man, who passed much of his wisdom and knowledge to his children and grandchildren. He loved his family, faith and animals, especially his cats.In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.
