VERNON >> Eric W. Gacek, 46, of Seneca Street, Vernon, N.Y. died Monday, Oct. 13, 2014 due to an accident. He was born May 22, 1968 in Utica, N.Y. the son of Thaddeus and Sandra MacMaster Gacek. Eric attended Cicero–North Syracuse High School. He worked in the meat department at Tops in Sherrill. Eric was a member of Vernon United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Sandra and Raymond Spies, Verona; his father, Thaddeus Gacek, Syracuse; one daughter, Stephanie Hartley, Roan Mountain, Tenn.; a son, Derryk, at home; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Tara and Tom Thurston, Vernon, and Heather Gacek, Boyton Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Mallory and Reily Hartley; one niece, Tela-Marie; and two nephews, Gage and Konrad.
A memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Vernon United Methodist Church with Pastor Francis Loan officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vernon United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Prince-Boyd & Hyatt Home for Funerals, Inc., 210 W. Court St., Rome, N.Y.

Eric and Derryk attended my church for a while and I taught his son in Sunday school. I remember Eric was so personable and outgoing. His son was sweet and was a good student. So sorry to his family for your loss. :(
