Ernest Getman Obituary
For most of his adult life, Jerry dealt with the pain and the restrictions of rheumatoid arthritis. He fought so hard because he loved living – and he felt the small joys of daily life far outweighed any price he was asked to pay. Jerry was known for his love of sports and ever-present sense of humor.
For more than 30 years Jerry's life passion has been VVS Dollars For Scholars -- more recently evolving to become the VVS Education Foundation. He took a personal interest in both students and donors and his leadership focus was always to help provide and promote a link between the two. The organization, which began in 1984, grew and flourished and has become what it is today, thanks in large part to Jerry's vision and dedication.
Jerry was formerly married to Deborah Parmelee Getman who passed away in September. Surviving are their daughter Sara Getman, son-in-law Peter Glover Jr. and granddaughter Lily. Also surviving are his brother Tom and sister-in-law Kathy and many nieces, nephews, additional extended family members and close friends.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Oneida Community Mansion House followed by a reception in the dining room. All are invited to attend. Donations in his memory may be made to the VVS Education Foundation, P.O. Box 63, Sherrill, N.Y. 13461.

I was a friend of your dad for many long years and am very sorry to hear of both his and your mothers passing. I will miss him calling me on my birthday at 5:30 am.

Sara and Family, I am so sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. I remember him fondly from working in the office. He was always laughing and joking around. His humor helped him with his pain. He was always so kind to me. God bless his soul and may he rest in peace.

Your dad was the strongest and most courageous person I have ever know. He always smiled when it would have been easier to cry. He always laughed and used his humor to hide his pain and he always, always chose hope over surrender..a man of true strength. He will be strongly missed by many.

I am so saddened by the passing of your Dad. He suffered so much from the pain of RA.
I would usually run into him at Price Chopper and we would always catch up.
We had some good memories in the shipping dept of OL.
He will be missed for sure.

I have so many wonderful memories of Jerry in the Mansion House; the laughter he gave to everyone, his abundant generosity, the candy he left for children outside of his apartment, the joy his family brought him, and his incredible determination to keep going. I cherish the thank you notes he wrote to me at work and his words and deeds when I retired.
May your own cherished memories comfort you during this sad time.
