James Nichols Obituary
He was born on Feb. 6, 1945, in Oneida, the son of Percy and Evelyn (Bishop) Nichols.
Jim spent his early years in Stockbridge, graduating from Stockbridge Central School in 1962. He has lived in Durhamville since 1974.
For over 30 years Jim has owned and operated Jim Nichols Contracting, Inc., serving the petroleum industry.
Jim is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oneida.
He was a member of the former Loyal Order of Moose in Oneida.
Jim enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
Jim married Karen B. Braendle on June 22, 1963, in Oneida.
Surviving besides his wife, Karen, are: twin daughters and a son-in-law, Korinna and Bill Chitty of Virginia Beach, Va., and Katrinia Buzzuro of Smyrna, Del.; one brother; one sister; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as his dedicated employees, Jon Marshall and Shawn Lambertson; special friend and work associate, Jim Stace; personal and business advocate, Melissa Enos; and special friends, Donna and Bill Ausman.
A special thanks to Dan Clemons for his support and recent visits to Jim. The family also wishes to thank Bethany Gardens in Rome, Dr. Teresa Gentile and UpState Oncology, Dr. Ray Carlson and Hamilton Cardiology, and Chiropractor Dr. Derrick Bush, for their kindness shown Jim during his 10 year struggle with Leukemia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church, Oneida. The Rev. Abigail Browka, Church Pastor, officiating. Calling hours will be held on Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Durhamville. In his memory, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 116 W. Grove St., Oneida, N.Y. 13421, the American Cancer Society, PO Box 7, E. Syracuse, N.Y. 13057, or to Bethany Gardens Activities Department, 800 W. Chestnut St., Rome, N.Y. 13440, with envelopes available at the funeral home or church.
