Joseph W. Kazlauskas

1941 - 2021

DURHAMVILLE-Joseph W. Kazlauskas, 80, passed away peacefully at home, on Saturday, October 23, 2021, with his family by his side after a long battle with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Now at peace, he will join the love of his life, Marcia Kazlauskas, in Heaven.Born in Durhamville on August 24, 1941, he was the son of John and Monica Vaitkus Kazlauskas. A lifelong resident of the area, Joe was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1959. He married Marcia J. Chrabas in St. Joseph’s Church on May 13, 1967. She died on January 5, 2014.Prior to his retirement in 2007, after over forty years, Joe was the Golf Course Superintendent for the former Brandy Brook Golf Course which is now the Old Erie Golf Course. He served in the United States Army from 1964-1965 in the 76th Battalion, Army Corps of Engineers. Joe was serving his apprenticeship with General Electric in 1963 as a draftsman until he was drafted. When he was honorably discharged, he returned to General Electric.He was a true outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping. He enjoyed watching both NASCAR and Dirt racing, both the NFL and the college football leagues and was a fan of Syracuse University football and basketball. He loved playing pitch and was active in various local leagues. Joe’s garden and his perfectly manicured lawn were a point of pride for him.Joe enjoyed making his rounds listening to local, outdoor music and especially loved Matt Chase and Thunder Canyon. His favorite place to eat and visit was Flo’s Diner.He was a communicant of St. Francis Catholic Church in Durhamville when it was open and currently Our Lady of Good Counsel.Surviving are: one daughter, Diane (Eric) Schmidtka of Romulus; four sons, Joseph (Candice) Kazlauskas of Canastota, Michael Kazlauskas of Oneida, Matthew (Christine) Kazlauskas of Knoxboro and Charles Kazlauskas (Angela Dygert) of Durhamville; eight grandchildren, Joseph Kazlauskas, Jeffrey Kazlauskas, Jacob (Katie) Parr, Kourtney Colon, Alexandria Woods, Joshua Kazlauskas, Daniel Kazlauskas and Lillian Kazlauskas; three sisters, Jean (Benny) Vaccaro of Durhamville, Fran Durant of Vernon and Pat Caron of Canastota; three brothers, Frank Kazlauskas and John Kazlauskas, both of Durhamville and Peter (Joan) Kazlauskas of Munnsville; sister-in-law, Nancy Cirmo of VA and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks is extended to Mark and Elaine Collins of Verona for all their love and support.Funeral services will be held 9:30AM, Saturday, October 30, 2021, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida and 10AM from St. Joseph’s Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Edmund Castronovo. Interment will be made in St. Francis Cemetery, Durhamville.
