Mary Bigford Obituary

Mary R. Bigford, 81, of Earlville Rd, Earlville, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, after a short stay at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville. She was born on February 23, 1942, in Oneida. A daughter of Harold Ira and Carrie (Reese) Cook.Mary was a graduate of Earlville High School. On November 21, 1959, she married the love of her life Gary L. Bigford, he predeceased her in 2006. Mary was a postal worker for nearly 30 years until her retirement in 1999. Mary was very creative and had a passion for refinishing antiques and sewing. She could be found at the fabric shop several times a week with her sewing teacher and cousin, Sharon Crain. Eventually, Mary opened a fabric shop in her home and so enjoyed all the long visits from friends and family that would frequent her shop. Mary enjoyed watching her four grandchildren grow up, they were the joy of her life, she went to multiple games and activities over the years. Mary was always up for a good time and loved to go places and visit friends and family, her home was always open for anyone to come and stay.After the passing of Gary, she spent 10 years going to Vieques, PR with her cousin, Lee to spend winter weeks in the warmth with cousin, Douglas. The last few years she enjoyed sitting on her porch rocking the day away and visiting with her friends that would stop by. Surviving are children; Dereck (Wendy) Bigford of Cicero, Traci (David) Buys of Lyons, and Jody (David) Holcomb of Hamilton; Grandchildren, Blaine Holcomb of TN, Rachel Holcomb of Colorado, Max Bigford of Skaneateles, and Josh Bigford of Cicero; Sister, Linnie Cook of Morrisville; Brother-in-law David Muhlfeld of Earlville; nieces Paula Godfrey of Sherburne, Carey Kohli (Mike) of Rome and Delaney Cook of New Hartford; Sister-in-law and husband Sandy and Chet Holbrook of Colorado; Brother-in-law and wife Rick and Ophelia, of Texas; and Brother-in-law Raymond Bigford of Hamilton. Also survived by a life-long best friend, Sharon Poissant, of New Hampshire. She was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Wayne Cook, and a sister, Georgena Muhlfeld, and a special friend, John Ryan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 2 pm from Cornerstone Baptist Church, 2369 Lake Moraine Rd., Hamilton, NY 13346. Friends and family are invited and may call from 12-2 pm prior to the service, at the church. Interment will be held at the Earlville Cemetery in the Spring. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Mary's memory to the Earlville Fire Department, 4 N Main St, Earlville, NY 13332.
